Though I'm doing little more than supporting some of you who posted earlier, I'd still like to say that I think Valve has been doing a great job. I was introduced to Half-Life over two and a half years ago and have been hooked ever since. I think Gooseman and the rest of the team who created and are continually working on CounterStrike did a great job. I've put more hours into the game than I can remember putting into any other... and all for under fifty dollars!
I've read all the posts and I'm not sure what you're all complaining about. You all seem to be under the impression that Valve can only do one thing at once. They can release old Half-Life updates *AND* work on a yet to be announced game. They can multitask!
And also (as was mentioned earlier) the entire CS community are acting as beta testers for new features (like voice communication) which Valve intends to release in new games.
As for their anti-cheat technology - we'll just have to wait and see. I'd be thrilled to see some sort of update that can significantly reduce amount of cheating... even if it's for just a few weeks. I personally think cheaters have ruined the CS community. Though there are a large number of cheaters, everyone automatically assumes that *anyone* who is skilled has some sort of aimbot. I'm quite tired of listening to people whine and equally tired of playing against players with 300+ pings who can instantaneously headshot me before I have time to react. I'd love to see the community return to the days when the scariest hack turned you into a chicken.
As for realism - I don't think there are any serious gamers out there who will claim Counterstrike is the most realistic game on the market. Anyone who thinks so hasn't played anything made since Half-Life was released. However, you'll find a lot of very serious gamers who will tell you that counterstrike is FUN. It adds just ENOUGH realism to be interesting, but not so much as to make the game dull. I think it's a great balance.
As for the "jumping" issue... human beings can jump. They really can. Try it yourself. Just bend your knees slightly and push hard against the ground with your legs. With any luck, you'll be airborn in no time.
However, I do think that the ability to hop around like a Mexican jumping bean and fire your weapon with the same accuracy as you would standing still is rather silly. It's something that should have been fixed a while ago. Of course, now many of the "good" players are habitually jumping/firing. It will be interesting to see how 1.4 affects their gameplay.
Lastly, and this is addressed to you "teh mane mahn", the fact that you registered doesn't make your opinion any more or less valid than the user who is posting onto these boards for the first time. Some of us (myself included) rarely post on these particular boards and haven't found it worthwhile to register. Others simply prefer anonymity - why you think this makes their opinions less valid is beyond me. Oh yes - I also found it humorous that within two consecutive sentences you managed to denounce insults and then insult a whole group of people. Bravo.
Anyway... happy gaming all.
