Renegade Demo Patch

As promised, the version 1.06 patch for the Command & Conquer Renegade demo is now available for download from the official site (here is the correct ftp link), FilePlanet (registration required) and Renegade Xtreme. The mere 447 KB patch automatically detects and sets your bandwidth, adds constraints to insure sufficient bandwidth on servers (such as forcing them to be dedicated), adds a command to report performance values, and addresses some memory leaks and other bugs. An updated full demo is also available from FilePlanet, 3D Gamers and EA's ftp server.

It seems to vary depending on the server, some of them have had similar pings, but one will be terrible (I run out of a room, head towards the gate and bang, Im back in the room again running into a wall) and the other will be really good. My advice try a few servers, dont give up after one bad one.

#22, patch 1.007 made a HUGE improvement for me. Are you sure you tried version 1.007? The initial release and the first patch were really bad but the game is working really good now. I've played in 50 player games through gamespy too. FUN!

well ive been using the ASE for about 3 months now with not an advert or a damn request for money EVER. The only thing i have noticed is that about once a week if i connect on the weekend at primetime itll state that refresh resources are being kept for registered players which means that it takes about 10 seconds to refresh the 300 servers rather than 5. ASE is by far superior to that bloated bright green funky graphic advert laden Gayspy or anything else out there. Its quick clean and does its job without trying to be icq, irc and voice chat all in one. In fact ive decided to register simply because I think its worthwhile and because its not bugging me to do so. Hey pay if ya like it. Now that its possible to try this demo through ASE ill definitely download it and see what the fuss is about.

All seeing eye has no adverts what so ever, it has bucket loads of filters and an auto server scanning. Which means you can choose to join your favourite server even if FULL and the ASE will join as soon as a slot is free. All seeing is far better than the over comercial gamespy, plus there is no damn log in needed.

Just noticed a post on a thread above which might interest you (full post follows):

"8. Re: No subject Feb 18, 21:48 anon@162.40

if u want to play the demo just do this!!!!!!!!!!!

1- UNINSTALL Gamespy arcade ( it's crap anyways )
2- UNINSTALL Renegade ( do custom uninstall, check everything )
3- DOWNLOAD Regcleaner(http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml) and SEARCH for RENEGADE and DELETE all Instances. ( It should find 2 )
4- Install ALL SEEING EYE ( http://www.udpsoft.com/eye/ )
5- REINSTALL Renegade ( DO NOT install Gamespy )
6- Open All Seeing Eye and find the 1.5 server option after refreshing list. "

I haven't tried it, but for those of you who do not like Gamespy Arcade, it might be worth a try. If it fails I suppose you can always install Gamespy Arcade afterwards.

*edit* I have not used All Seeing Eye myself, so God only knows (or maybe some of you do) if it is better than Gamespy Arcade.

Those stats take into accout Gamespy Arcade, Gamespy 3D, and in-game servers/players. That is why they don't reflect the numbers on Arcade, since it's numbers are based on people who are in Arcade while playing. But, unlike what you say, Arcade doesn't remove you from chat when you enter a game, it simply puts you at the bottom of the list.
Renegades is only playable through GSA, which means that the GSA numbers are accurate. Notice that there isn't a timestamp on the Gamespy Stats page.

#28, perhaps YOU should check the stats again. 3:30pm on Monday afternoon on west cost, 6:30pm on east cost. Only 1600 players. Wolf has over 6,000 players, for the record.

Ryan, you say you've played Unreal 2 and it's bad? Is that right? You bonehead! Your probably playing what was on the net, which is slow, choppy and incomplete! Unreal 2 will most likely be THE game of the year! That or Unreal Tournament 2.

Most I have seen is 35XX peeps on gamespy BUT WHO CARES...The game is playable IF you find a good server BUT like most people its annoying to connect/play smooth on 1 out of 6 servers... I like the game and will get it Westwood will improve and if they dont well only time will tell... And yes this patch basically just disabled options in the demo and set the config to high (for me) and doesn’t allow me to selected EAX2 anymore... But I set it back to trilinar filter and highest setting....
