Gore is a very important issue to me. Personally, I'm tired of games like Quake where you fire a weapon at sometime and get no sense of "impact".

It's like this; if you destroy a chair in a game, do you want to see the chair disappear and end up as a tiny scrap of wood on the ground? Or do you want to see the chair's parts all rip apart in a violent, swift manner? You want the latter.

If someone gets shot at close range with a shotgun, there should be a nice hole through them. Or at least a violent lurch backwards with blood bubbling out of their bodies.

That's what gory games need... Advanced bleeding effects on player models. SOF1 had it going on; a nice gradual incline and decline in blood spraying. Too bad the sprites were unnoticeable most of the time.

You guys should have it right by now; no more of this rediculous "magical sprite of red smoke"(tm) blood nor the "Doom days sprite that falls through and/or onto the ground"(tm) blood.

Sure, limbs getting blown off from pistols is excessive. But a nice gaping hole in someones face from a Desert Eagle is appropriate. And so are arterial sprays, per-pixel bullet hole wounds with a gradual incline&decline of blood *bubbling* out (or generalized region wounds... **SOMETHING to make machine guns as satisfying as they look in mobster movies!**).

Oh, and... disembowelment? Thumbs up. Exit wounds with brain matter are also a plus.

Kenn, looks like it's going well. The first game focused too much on the gore factor and not enough on the gameplay. Looks like SOF2 will have an increased focus on gameplay, AI, etc. and use the gore as an added effect rather than the core of the game. When can we expect a demo?

Pool of Radience had random dungeons in multiplayer. But then again, Pool of Radience had its own set of problems...

Yes, yes, yes... But any FPS?! ...Rise of the Triad, my friends! This hasn't been done for years and I'm SO GLAD to hear than Raven is pulling all the stops. Hell yea.

Someone made a random level generator for Doom, too, although it was a 3rd party, of course. The levels ended up being very similar to ROTT levels in that everything was connected at 90 degrees and it was a flat plane, but still, it was pretty neat that someone did it.

The trick, I suppose, is to make the random stuff halfway interesting. =) I'm assuming from what I've read that the random scenario will include generated terrain and have buildings and stuff, and it should be pretty cool to see how random you can get with a game of such potential level complexity. The info I've found on the random system is severely lacking in details, so maybe my expectations are too high (I hope not :)).

X-box versions are certainly possible and we'll look into them, though no contracts have been signed for them at this time.

Seems like a no-brainer to me, so here's hopin'...

Oi, liking to play around with Q3 stuff without having a goal of creating everything its really obvious you guys have pushed the engine really far (and added your own).

Noteables:
-The glass breaking, but not just having a 'broken' texture but what looks like proper sized bullet holes
-The waterfall in one of the jungle scenes...nice....

Any chance of this or JK hitting the Xbox?

I just hope the multiplayer is up to scratch.

Objective based multiplayer is where its at these days, with deathmatch being a poor mans mp experience. Wolfenstein and MoH have got it spot on if you ask me, what with the blowing up a target or getting a hold of an object and taking it somewhere (which is really just CTF with added extras)

I wouldn't say it's toned down. It's a bit more realistic this time around. You're not going to be able to blow a guy's head off with a Glock. Did you see the M203 shot first thing in the trailer? The guy exploded into a pile of goo and filled the whole room with blood. Does that look toned down to you?

Well, the Terminator game about 10 years ago had a random mission generator/map generator.

If you really are Kenn Hoekstra, (I'll assume you are :)), will the gore and dismemberment be toned down for SOF2?

I thought it was really nicely done in the original.

defenitely nothing groundbreaking here.

I will bemore interested in this game if they slow down the speed of the players, cause the way it is now just seems like another quake.

Man, I saw the footage just now for the first time. Up until this point I had only seen screen shots. WOW!! This game has THE most realistic animation in a pc game EVAR! Unbelievably smooth and fluid. Did you see how that one guy leaped over that wooden crate!? Man, that was beautiful. Guyz, these are the single best moments in history to be a gamer. For only do we get to see this entertainment genre evolve before our very eyes.
I LOVE PC GAMES!
Now, when does Gforce 4 come out?
