Castle Wolfenstein Patch

As promised, the Return to Castle Wolfenstein patch has now been released, bringing Gray Matter and Nerve Software's first-person shooter to version 1.1. We have a local copy with mirrors of the 1.48 MB download, which primarily addresses multiplayer server issues, and full details are listed in the included Readme.

I find it sad that many people on here are bitching about the quality of a patch. I agree that it should work correctly but to get pissed off and call RTCW a piece of shit or make rude comments like saying the programmer of this patch should be fired is lame. I mean in all honesty most of you that posted here probably could not write this patch yourself,so im sure you have no clue what gos into making this patch. I could be wrong but im sure that if you were skilled in the arts of making this patch and was quite the l33t programmer perhaps you would have made this patch yourself. These programmers are working hard to bring product updates to many games at one time. I would think you would appreciate the fact that they are spending time to update games so that way our gaming experiance will be improved upon and made more exciting. All progress has its set backs. Remember people this is just a game. If you get this stressed out about a game patch perhaps you need to leave the game alone. Enjoy the game.

F.Y.I. I love Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Its a huge improvement over Wolfenstein 3D and spear of destiny. I think the programmers of this game did a wonderful job. Also the patch installed fine on my computer. Im running both the Win32 version under XP and i installed the linux binary for SP and MP play under my Red Hat installation. Wonderful job on both.

argh!

1. The update won't install:
============================
You must have a full retail version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein installed properly on your system before you will be able to install the update. If for some reason the installer is not able to find your install directory, please see the section below on "Extracting the necessary files without installing."

2. Extracting the necessary files without installing:
=====================================================
Recommended only for System Administrators and advanced users. It is possible to extract the necessary files without running the installer. To do so, simply open the update using any unzip program. Once you have it open, you'll want to replace these original files (located in the RtCW root folder) with the new versions located in the update:

Anet.inf
CGAME_MP_X86.DLL
QAGAME_MP_X86.DLL
UI_MP_X86.DLL
Wolfmp.exe

ok, a ton of people are having problems getting this
patch to run.

when you run the wolf_1_1.exe, the installer pops a window
with "Setup cannot locate an existing installation of RTCW"

what do we do?

(if this is covered a readme file extracted with the patch,
then whoever bundled the patch should be yelled at for being
a moron, and someone should post the contents of this file
please)

thanks!

I installed RtCW in the default directory (I OWN a legit copy) this patch still doesn't work. Whatever moron wrote this patch should be fired. I can't read the readme because it wont install. My system is vanilla I keep it simple so I wont have problems and I never do. But this problem is not because of me it's because those idiots cant write a simple installer.

The patch stinks in that it will not self install. If this is the way the game will be supported don`t expect me to buy products from these people in the future. If they will give me my money back I will send it too them.

#18

i'm a musician, i don't tell people to learn an instrument and do it better when they hear a rubbish piece of music. kind of makes these people only answerable to coders and programmers, which would not be a good thing. but anyway, the game isn't THAT bad. it just ain't that good either.

There was some good moments in RTCW but one thing that really worried me was that all the chicks sounded like the chick from Daikatana and that just brought back bad memorys. ( no offence to the voice actor )

More and more the games industry is becoming like the movie industry. Stay clear of those big block busters to avoid disappointment and invest your time into the more obscure. You just might be surprised.

I found the greatest story in a little unknown game called Hostile Waters. It is not a 1st person shooter, but a action strategy game. If you haven't already... do yourself a favour and check this baby out. If not for the gameplay and gfx, at least for the story then. It will blow you mind... and it costs a fraction of the price.

BTW eyE ownZ da European servers in RTCW.
