Unreal Tournament II Q&A

Later than usual, GameSpot has updated with a new Unreal Tournament II interview, discussing the recently confirmed first-person shooter by Digital Extremes at length with lead designer Pancho Eekels. Topics include how the sequel improves upon the original game, such as your new role as the "captain of a persistent but evolving team" in single-player, the new special moves, improved arsenal, new recharging stations, aspects of using the Unreal engine, the multiplayer modes the game will feature, and lots more. Most if not all of the accompanying screenshots and concept art has already appeared elsewhere though. Here is an excerpt:
GameSpot: Are you at all wary of some confusion or blurring of the lines between this Unreal game and the three other ones currently in development? How are you differentiating Unreal Tournament 2 from the rest of its Unreal family?

Pancho Eekels: We're always wary of confusion in the line of Unreal games, especially right now, but as soon as people play the different ones, they'll see and feel the difference. And the more we talk about the different games and explain what they are, the more it should help.

Unreal II is a single-player-focused mission-based game and has lots of story and background, tasks, and events, as well as a bit more action than the original. Unreal Tournament 2 is a sequel to the original multiplayer-focused action-packed game for the PC. Unreal Championship for Xbox is similar to Unreal Tournament 2 in the multiplayer focus and action but incorporates the element of console play into an FPS that many have not been able to do yet.

I was joking in my comment, but anyway UT isn't the only game that allows downloads to the client from the server.

These are not rumors.

It is a fact that Unreal Tournament at one time allowed the server to upload anything to a player's computer.

From this I only see 2 games from one engine... U2 & UT2. Unreal Championship for Xbox is just a port of Unreal Tournament 2, it's UT2 for consoles with a new name.

Oh, and from the sounds of it UT2 & UC must have at once carried the "Unreal Warfare" name and it has been since changed. It's still only called the "Unreal Engine", albeit a heavily improved one.

But hey... that's just my opinion. Can't wait to play both.

I hope not. Personally I liked downloading virus after virus from UT servers, sometimes I'd get seven or nine viruses a day - more on weekends. Then did you ever get the virusvirus? Those are the viruses you download from UT servers that actually destroy the original viruses you download from UT servers. Boy those were the days. I really hope they keep those downloadable viruses in UT2.
