Q3A True Combat

Not to be confused with the preview build 12 from the other day, the Official True Combat website now offers a final build 12 of this teamplay modification for Quake III Arena, which requires you to have previously installed build 11. According to their accompanying update: "Build 12 is a full feature packed update from Build 11 and a milestone in FPS realism simulation. Build 12 forces and requires much more tactical and team-based combat behaviour. With the enhanced ISIS, Build 12 is a new challenge for all true realism fans."

everyday there are enough people for a good game, all TC needs is more people so that we can use the other servers, theres plenty of servers that don't get played on much but thats a good thing, plenty of places to learn the maps and get your binds in order.

If your through with the kid game mods like C/S and UT Download this mod now. {TMNTwine

I downloaded what was i think v 0.43 it it was just so damn ugly, that I am waiting for at least 0.80 until I try again. Might be the nicest game playwise but I can't see from the puke on the screen.

I have not played any other MOD for Q3 other than this and UT and to say that this kicks UT backside is an understatement.

Anyone wanting to try something different should get this mod. It may not be the most popular mod in the world but that makes it all the better for the people who play on a regular basis. I play (as TheSilverFox) as regular as I can and the small comunity of players makes it great for regular battles with people you learn to play with or against.

All I can say is get it now and get good before the world finds out just how good this mod is and every one joins the community!

Hi!

If care about the hands on first person view more than the game itself, ok.

Play it and look away from the gun arms. Then come back and tell us, what you think about it.

I find the way that the weapon model displays the players arm as some tendon-y stalk of celery extending into a hand-like thing disturbing to look at to say the least....

Good lord. It doesn't get any better than this, folks. Want realism for your Q3A install? Get this.
Those "other" mods, which will remain nameless (Urban Terror), are no match for the goodness here.

I am a die hard CS player (since 5.2, anyway) and love the game. There is still a lot in CS that other mods could take into consideration and would do well to emulate. I mean, hey, it's the #1 most played FPS on the net *for a reason*

That said, I am also a TC n00b, installing build 11 two days before christmas! And I am impressed. VERY impressed. Is it perfect? Hell no, but no mod/game IS, especially one that is so "young".

Does it break new ground? Yup! The realism of "tactical mode" combat (no arcade game style crosshairs), pseudo-realistic ammo and damage counters (I LOVE the ammo and damage "counters"!), partial bandaging of wounds, realistic reloads, holstering a weapon to climb stuff, stamina/fatigue (bite me, bunny hoppers!), sprinting disables your weapon, the scope wavers a bit when you first zoom in, and more, and more, and more!

Does it look good? Hell yeah! It's on the Q3 engine! Gorgeous maps (maybe a bit small yet and favoring DM style play, but that will change with time). The night warrior scope especially, is very sweet. Lense flares, snow flakes, rain drops. Weapon animations (and sounds) that are second to *none* (the pistols in tac mode are especially awesome!)

Is the gameplay any good? Hey, the DM modes are DM! If you like that stuff you won't have any complaints with these modes in TC either. Of special note are the new King of the Hill and Capture and Hold modes (C&H is reminisent of the flag type maps in Day of Defeat and just as challenging). Also both "survivor" and "team survivor" are available modes too (think round based combat, ala CS). Once serious team based modes of play are mature enough to replace the run of the mill DM type modes I see TrueCombat easily matching CS in quality of gameplay and teamwork (hell, lots of kiddy CS players have NO clue about teamwork as it is!)

Congrats on a job well done, Team Terminator, and most importantly... KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

I've played this mod since the earlier builds and I got to say that TT has made a great mod. It's a well developed mod and is a change from the others. The mod isn't a CS of UT (thank god) but a more "realistic" mod. If anyone is tired of unloading 2 clips into an enemy and still having them bunny jump around then they should give TC a try.

*Sigh* Al right, here we go..

1. No sorry, the puberty insult is a common one when it comes to the CS community, considering it's made up of pre-pubecent children.
2. I can tell you're a CS fanboy by the way you write your posts, they look quite similar to the majority of other CS-related posters, in that they look like they've been written by an illiterate grade schooler.
3. You're still ignoring the fact that CS looks like a "Carbon copy" of just about every other realism game out there. Action Quake, R6, you name it.

I just downloaded this game and played it for the first time today and I am very impressed with it. I normally play CS and I like it, but there is something about this mod that really interests me...the fact that it's only in beta! It's only in beta and all ready it's more impressive than CS. The maps are beautiful! The gameplay is awesome. The weapons are realistic as well as the ballistics. I think I found my new game of choice! Oh and by the way, the view from the various scoped weapons makes my mouth water.

This is easily the best realism mod out right now. The level of control and the physics of the game are head and shoulders above other mods. I am at a loss as to why more people do not download this mod. Anyways if you are tired of cartoon action and need a dose of reality True Combat is just the ticket you need. Just remember, be prepared to invest some time, cuz there is a learning curve to this game that is perhaps a little steeper than say CS. You will die, and die often. Have fun and play safe.

peace out

The problem with your post bro' is nicely summed up in your point #3: "Just look at the screenshots..."

Hmmm, maybe you should try downloading the mod and actually PLAYING it before you run your mouth. (And no, not just for 5 or 10 minutes against a couple of low-level bots either.)

Then, once you actually know something about the mod, if you want to dis it, that's your prerogative.

Your ill-informed spewing reminds me of a recent post I saw on MTBR.COM where some llama took a mountain bike for a test ride in a parking lot, and then proceeded to trash it in an online forum.

Try it before you trash it...

get the facts straight asshole
1. You stupid puberty insult is standard variety for people who have no clue what they're talking about
2. Who said i was protecting CS in the first place. To be honest i started playing CS since Beta 3 and quit around beta 6.
3. Just look at the screenshots of the game they look like almost exact carbon copys of CS even the way they hold the weapons (granted theres only a few ways you can hold weapons).

Wowzers! CS kiddies attack! Obviously you haven't been playing games for very long (Probably due to the fact that you haven't reached puberty yet), But you should atleast know WHAT you're flaming, and what you're protecting. CS is a terrible game, not just an Action Quake clone, not just an R6 clone, but it's just a terrible game. It's like the offical retard breeding ground of the online gaming world.

But really, I'm still glad the CS community exists, because it keeps all the little script kiddies from crossing over to other, better, games.

This is a great mod, I am at a loss as to why more people don't play it. Tactically advanced, thought and reflexes equally balanced.
The players that are regulars are for the most part courteous, and sportsmanlike which is rare for FPS online gaming. I think this is a mod that will attract a more mature, more thoughtful player, If you have had enough of quake 3 bunny hopping this is for you.
All it needs is more coverage.
The dev team listen to the community, They are working on eyecandy, although up to now the emphasis has been on gameplay, something TT excel at IMHO.

To still say a game is "CS or R6 clone" is just backwards thiking. its been around long enough and popular enough to be considered its own genre, hence the term "clone" is just laughable.

As far as TC goes, it definetely has much potential. I did have problems with the original release as far as key binding and map cycling went but that couldve been on my end and not the game.

Lastly, I personally beleive all the best ideas for future games will come from mods. Corpoprate suits could care less about doing something new and different, sequels and established genres are where their short term profits come from and thats all they want. I've seen a lot of incredibly fun mods die because of attitudes like #4's. Just keep in mind if people had said CS was just another FPS you wouldnt have anything to whine about today. If your going to say something sucks at least try the dam thing out and write a coherent reason WHY you think it sucks rather than just acting like any other spoiled 13 year old using Mom and Dads Hewlett-Packard...

Oh cry for me a river! If you really want cheezy cartoon graphics go play UT! If you want lamo-super-animated-figures to play RQ3. Problem is, neither of those have this kind of realism.

You can take something like 10 rounds in UT and you always bleed from the abdomen. In RQ3 you can survive a 3 story fall. These games are not realistic, they're just RAMBO QUAKE. But the problem is that <b>everyone is Rambo</b>.

<b>True Combat</b> offers the best realism of any game out there, exceeding games like Ghost Recon in terms of the feel of the game (while maybe not having prone and mounted weapons), and exceeding Counter Strike in terms of the realistic effect weapons have on you (after you're hit you better run or YR DEAD).

The problem lies not in the lack of servers, but the lack of players! I run a server myself that's always empty.

What Blue didn't mention is that TC has UNLAGGED SUPPORT. You can join any server with at worst a 350 ping and still be very competative.

In reply to the opinion in the last post, and in the defence of a really good mod, I must tell you, I,ve been playing TC for quit awile. Personaly, I find it to be one of the best mods made. The resson there arn't a hundred servers is because our genneration, X,er's, have the attention span of a flippin fly. I like CS, but, I like TC more, thats just me.

Let it be known, there are many things in this world that deserve better recognition, but, sadly, many of these are overlooked, pushed aside as it were, left on the road side so that the masses can rush to the mudane.

I hope this mod getts the respect it deserves, and as a person who apreciates the rare game experiances that acctully have good gameplay, and mind you, gameplay is KING, (not the fricken hand model's)I will continue to suport this mod. Yes, its still early, yes the modeling isnt the best out there, but, the Dev team working on it know this well, and are allways improving TC, as this lattest release is evident. But, for those of u who give this a chance, you will be richly rewarded by a great gameplay experiance, as well as a Very loyal community of fans who stay close and have an intergral affect on how this mod commes together. Team Terminator is one team that listens to their fans, I could say less of the corprate crap that most people play now days.

I could go on, but I fear it would be wasted efort, but alas, all I can say is, "Try it, you might like it"

As for the servers that do exist for this game, they are almost always full, fun, and fast.

latter all,

NeoMaestro
