Gore Test 2

As promised, 4D Rulers has released a new test demo of Gore, their upcoming multi-player first-person shooter, and we have a local copy with mirrors of the 69.2 MB download. This test demo includes two new levels and one from the original test, 4 characters (2 UMC and 2 MOB), CTF and Tactical game modes in addition to deathmatch, all the weaponry from the first demo and half a dozen new weapons, and more.

Doesn't this game remind anyone else of origional Quake. Quake was great for it's time, but this game seems to be extremely dated. I'd say these guys should have had this game out about 4 years ago and it could've been something. Ahh well...

You must have never played Gore. Go back to playing Rocket Arena for Quake 1. Gore is extremely fun and vastly under rated.

In one hours time I saw a few people get on...play for 3 minutes, and then say "this sucks" after they got fragged a few times then left. they didn't even know there were secondary fire modes or player classes!! The overwhelming majority thought the game was great so there is hope for the masses after all

This game is fun as hell ...runs smooth as silk (framerates that bury Q3 and UT...at least on my system) and has a lot of little nuances that make the game a joy to play. Give it some of your time and you'll be rewarded with a lot of hours of solid gameplay.

Hump...you are so right.
Played the first demo a few times and had lotsa fun.
It's smooth and the gameplay is hectic.
Look's alot better than Quake 2...more like 3.
There is enough 'jump in and frag' fun here to make the
download worth it.
I'm ready to play demo2.
In fact, that's what i'm gonna do right now.

Smooth engine, and classic gameplay. And anyway, it's a test, so don't judge it too harshly. Remember QTest?

Those of you that are fans, I wish you hours of enjoyment. I on the other hand will be playing Wolfenstein.

I do admit that parts look very nice. The sniper rifle model is excellent, although it doesnt zoom and it has a rapid fire (must be some kind of new sniper rifle). The flamethrower is just downright pathetic. Say what you will about sprites, at least its cool to look at.

The server I was on was stable and not in the least bit jerky which is my biggest gripe about Wolfenstein, I seem to get a network interuptions alot. Although there was a fraction of a second delay from the time I picked up items and guns to the time I actually heard the sound effect for it. Just long enough that it caused me to spend a lot of time looking behind me to see if I actually picked it up.

As smooth as it is its no competition to UT, Halflife, Quake etc. and it doesnt really have the WoW-Factor that Serious Sam has.

I don't write this to spite anyone or slam the product, I'm just giving my honest impressions of it. Im sorry it just wasnt worth the download for me. I've already uninstalled it and deleted the install.

I will say one thing....it'll be a long long time before anyone makes a flamethrower to compare to Wolfs..

Take a look at Kingpin's flamethrower effects, and especially the ones where someone is on fire.

yeah, Kingpin had great flamethrower and fire effects but it still doesnt approach Wolfs.

For two points, can anyone explain WHY the Wolfenstein flamethrower looks like a better version of the Kingpin one?

Anyone? Anyone?

"Drew Markham and I tried to convince the guys at id Software to let us work on a sequel to Wolfenstein 3D for almost two years. At one point, in October 1997, prior to starting 'Kingpin', we decided to create a short demo using pre-release Quake II code to help sell the idea."

Wolf is made by the same people that did kingpin. So the flameshould be better.

Ah yes, yet another ignorant person who hasn't played the game enough obviously. I just love people that only have Quake and UT in their vocabulary. Don't get me wrong, I liked each of those games in their own respect, but learn to BIND THE KEY TO ZOOM and then you might be able to zoom with the sniper.

Except that if you have a key bound to "zoom", you can zoom with any weapon, not just the sniper rifle. Just like the zoom function in Quake 3. Hell, you can zoom if you have a melee weapon.

This sort of thing is why Gore appears to have been created by some somewhat competent coders, but a bunch of gameplay designers who couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel. Garish, amaturish art and models don't help either. Good luck finding a publisher, guys; maybe if you weren't trying to poorly recreate Unreal Tournament from scratch, you'd have a better chance.

The wolfenstein flamethrower just sucked. It may have looked good, but it was a fantasy weapon and not well implemented in the game. I've seen real WW2 flamethrowers in action a couple of times and they are completely different. They don't really shoot flames out. Just an energetic fuel that doesn't dissipate in the air as in Wolf. They are much like waterguns in fact. And when the fuel falls on someone, he is as good as roasted. Also, the fire should not be nearly as spread out.
