Out of the Blue

We've had many requests over time for access to the headline file that sites like Slashdot use to grab our headlines. In the past the unfortunate answer was that there wasn't one, and that sites that were displaying our headlines had coded their own way to grab them. Now we are pleased to announce that our headlines are available here in RSS 1.0 format.

Following up on the search stuff, furn has made some progress tweaking the search engine. For instance, the example I gave of Serious Sam turning up zero matches has been fixed. This is because the search engine no longer skips three letter words, "Sam" in this case, and the word "serious" has been removed from the list of words excluded from searches. The default of not searching for three letter words sort of makes sense, but the "serious" thing is a bit odd... I'm sure there's a reason it was included in what's described as the "stop list," but I can't figure it out myself (this list includes a lot of words like "and, "it," "the," and such, which would be skipped by the three letter exclusion anyway). Anyway, this "stop list" is apparently quite lengthy, so if you notice something oddly absent form your search results, drop us a line to let us know... it might just be another "serious" situation.

Sweet !
I have a page at work I use to pull down Stomped's feed and just added yours to it and it works right to spec. Way to go Furn ! It is nice to use at work because I can just drag your feed through the firewall without actually showing ever leaving the building with a local web page. If I find something particularly interesting, then I am just a click away, but it better not to show multiple hits on your URL at work.

Thanks, nice addition.
