Okay, so like I never really got around to playing
Half-Life and its bretheren (
Counter-Strike,
Day of Defeat, etc.) online, so just yesterday I fired up GameSpy. There are, of course, 15,000
Half-Life servers out there so any server browser would take a while to update them all. That's not a big deal. What is a big deal however is that after GameSpy updates them all it takes a
long time to recover. This sucks.
Plus last night I was having like almost no luck getting on a
Return to Castle Wolfenstein server, and GameSpy 3D obviously doesn't support that just yet, so I figured it might be neat to see what this program is like.
Wow. Takes less time to update, is quick concerning mod directories, and will actually exit in less than an hour. Makes me wish I never paid the $20 for GameSpy. Couple that with the $20 I wasted on GameLaunch and they totally ripped me off.
Having said that, GameSpy Arcade is still kickass for anything that's not a FPS. Whenever you want a game of
Monopoly or
Civilization II or Chess, GSA rocks.
I had heard a while back that GS is hard at work on GameSpy 3D 3.0. I hope it's better amd I'll probably give newer versions of GS3D a spin to see if they're any better, but unless TASE pisses me off I'll be floating them a $20 in the next month or so.
