Out of the Blue

Well the power has been restored to the area that caused my DSL to go under, but what I've learned since then is that this was not the only thing that would go into restoring service, so that's still in the works. What I have also learned since then is that this does not just impact the New York City area, but is, in fact, causing problems with Covad customers across the country, so if you are one of them whose service has likewise been interrupted (presuming you got online some other way to read this), they are still working on it.

Link of the Day: Paint the Moon. Thanks Chris Johnson.
Media of the Day: Thank you, everyone, for your support during this difficult time. Thanks Redwood.

I've just seen a report by Dan McDonald, on the Canadian TV which claimes AP (assosiated press) has a video of *thousands* of palestinians celebrating. AP can't publish it because of death threats. As far as I know, this is true - since thats what the AP people says.

Don't buy into the picture the palestinian authority trys to paint... wait and see who will join the coalition and who doesn't...

Thanx for the media link. I'm a first-year high-school teacher in Canada and haven't been able to keep up with everything as it happened other than listening to CBC1. The majority of my students have know more about it than me. Today's the first day I've had time to really try and take it all in.

Nice idea, but it would never work.

First of all, laser pointers to disperse over distances, so even pointing one at the moon, the beam would probably be dispersed over at least half the moon's surface.

Atmospheric distortion and refraction disperses the beam further.

Assuming the beams did not disperse at all, millions of people would need to have their lasers percicely calibrated to the optical axis of a telescope which has lunar tracking capability. Just hand-pointing it at the moon you could be several degrees off and not even know it. The reason you can aim them so well from the back of the room to a projected presentation is that you can refine your aim by looking at where the beam is aimed. If you shoot it out into space, you can not see it at all.

Awesome link Blue. This link strengthened my pride in being an American, and restored my faith in humankind.
Gives me hope that the world can pull together after this tragedy to fight a common enemy.
I especially appreciated the pic's of the Palestinians, they are not all like the idiots who celebrated the attack.
God bless the USA, God bless us all.
