Out of the Blue

Let me hide my NBA finals spoilers, in case anyone time shifted the game. You can highlight the text to read the redactions. Congrats to the OKC Thunder on their NBA championship! I'm a fan of defense, so I was pleased that this was on display from both teams and that the team with the league's best defense this season prevailed. We actually had a rooting interest here in the Blue Tower, as MrsBlue works for a company based in Oklahoma City, so she actually watched the games with me, which was fun. Here's a salute to the gritty Pacers, and hopes that Tyrese Haliburton can make a full recovery from his devastating injury.

Championship Round-up

I am indeed unruly!

But I can be cordial to people other than my dogs. I mean, I do like them best, but I can be cordial.

I am not worried about what happens in my lifetime. I know that I will not outlive massively catastrophic climate change events. The hurricanes, wildfires, excessive heat, and the like we see today are just pre-game warmups. What I am concerned about is what will happen to the next generation of my family. Ultimately, I care very little about my own life. But I do care very much about my nephew and whatever future little Burritos may be born. That is what I planned for and that is for whom I am building. I am responsible for the care and well-being of my entire living, immediate family; past, present, and future until I am dead.

So I do care but I have learned to care within my SOI alone. Because that is where I can most effect change and ensure survivability.

Well that's about the silliest headline I've read in a while.
It does sound silly, but that is what they found. They seemed to think it was due to the manufacturers using glass bottles handling the plastic caps too roughly -- the particles in the bottles, matched the color and plastic type of the caps. It could be the sample size was small, nothing in the article indicates how many products they looked at or how many samples they took.
Sorry, I should have elaborated a bit more. Without any context from the article, the headline is a bit ambiguous in that it could also be referring to the make-up of the bottle itself as opposed to the liquid contained within. In which case, that would make the plastic bottle macro plastic, and a rereading of the headline becomes wacky.

Wait, I don't get credit for being a curmudgeon?! Dang! Ivory tower? Well, I guess my brick ranch is painted white, but not much of a tower...

Depending on your definition of the sword falling, I will probably live long enough to see it fall for some. Hell, it already is falling for some people, right? But I won't be here for the full collapse, assuming it happens. Outside the climate problems, it would be interesting to see how the world is impacted when the population collapses, which a lot of the people studying population demographics seem pretty sure is on its way. On the one hand, less of us seems like a good thing, on the other the way the world economy is built, it probably isn't.

I'm pretty sure humanity will still be around in 100 years. But I wouldn't care to bet if it will be in 500 years, at least not in any way most of us would like to experience. I hope I'm wrong. I hope we figure it out again. The last 200 years have been crazy in both good and bad ways. I suspect it to continue being crazy good and bad for a long time to come.

FAFO absolutely applies, and I see your are invested.
I think both Mr. Tact and BOP do care.

There is self protection in detaching oneself some, from the cruelty and senselessness of life/humanity when you can't alter things (think doctors).

Of course, they have the intelligence and the means to adapt ... for now.
Maybe hoping the sword will fall after they are safely gone.

SS - People generally don't look for long nuanced discussions here, so you sometimes get responses that sound as though the person is indifferent. Knowing both of them, I can confidently say that they both care in their own way. Don't get discouraged; it sounds like you need a bit of a reset and recharge is all. I know for me I can become too emotionally invested in something pretty easily, so I tend to act disconnected myself trying to avoid that.

Cool cool. Can you highlight in this thread were either Tact or I said either of us was "above" or "personally unconcerned" about this? Because I don't see it at all. What I do see is Tact mentioning he is glad he installed solar panels which keep him grid independent and me stating that nothing of significance will be done because most people and governments simply do not care enough to act in a timely manner. I further said that I, too, had become grid independent so that, whatever may happen, me and mine are cared for.

The feathers I see ruffled here are yours because you're taking this personally and posting emotionally.

That's true, despite being 60+ I am not in an at risk demographic. But at least I didn't say it would be "fun" when tens of thousands of people die. And yes, I realize you were being sarcastic, but is that really something you should be joking about? *shrug* Whatever. Have a good one.

I watched that and just shrugged. It is not at all uncommon to have triple digit heat (Fahrenheit scale) with very high, nonprecipitating humidity here in the summer. "Summer" is about 7 months long now. In 2023, we had 44 straight days of 100+ degree heat which did not factor in the humidity. We never have "dry" heat here. It is always humid heat.

The Snowpocalypse we went through four years ago drove me to be energy independent. Grid goes down, not my problem. I have solar and generators so I'll have power. I have learned how to create microclimate areas to keep pets and people comfortable in either extreme. Things will continue to worsen and both populations and governments are slow, stupid, lazy, and stubborn so nothing meaningful will be done in a time frame that will save lives or do anything of value to address the problem. It's not ideal, but I feel we're deep in "every man for himself" territory at this point. Thus, I act accordingly.

I'm in the midst of the heat wave (central Illinois) and I am feeling so good about the solar I had installed in Apr 2022 -- haven't paid for a single kWh since then. The great part is the same thing that causes the need for the power causes me to produce more power. Even switched to an electric water heater this spring since I have enough excess generation to easily cover it. Stay cool out there everyone!

The Kings traded away the wrong PG. Should have kept Tyrese Haliburton. He displayed a tremendous amount of leadership in the playoffs.
Kings went from two outstanding PGs to none Angry .
