Today is the 29th anniversary of the launch of Quake! At this point it
should go without saying that these anniversary announcements are preceded by an
implicit "it's hard to believe this, but." This site originated in late 1995 in
anticipation of Quake as an outgrowth of my DOOM fandom, and it's easy
for me to recall the anticipation leading up to this day in 1996, and all the
excitement that ensued as we got our hands on the game. I'm still grappling with
how this ended the era of one-on-one deathmatch we'd grown used to in DOOM and
its IPX networking, but I imagine I'll get over it in another decade or two.

I don't suppose any of you remember KALI. That was my multiplayer jam back then.

Big Dr. Demento fan back in the day as well. I'd record his radio shows on cassette and relisten to them over and over in the car on my drives to and from work.

That's the energy I'm feeling—nothing less will do! Except I don't want my neighbors to think I've lost my mind. 🤪 😅Kxmode wrote on Jun 22, 2025, 15:01:There's nothing stopping you from creating one in your kitchen sink right now. And given that baking soda and vinegar are an actual clog remedy, you could even pass it off as actual work instead of just messing around.![]()

I've always lamented not having had the opportunity to make a baking soda volcano in elementary school. I used to think they were the absolute coolest thing a student could create. How often is a teacher totally fine with you making something that could explode in class?![]()
