Out of the Blue

I was dragged into taking a break yesterday because Devicer committed to tickets to Ballerina. I would have timed it differently amid trying to cover all the gaming show news from the weekend, but it was probably good for me to get away from the keyboard for a bit, And the movie doesn't seem to have much traction, so it was good to catch it before it closes. And it was worth the effort, as it's a fine installment in the series. But the inconvenient timing did not just extend to my work, I had previously warned Devicer that Tuesdays are discount ticket days at Regal, so we should avoid them with our "free" passes to not be overrun by other bargain hunters. This really bit us yesterday, as there are a lot of olds who apparently took a break from mall-walking to stop in at a random movie to sit and talk, And talk, And talk. So yeah, Tuesdays are to be avoided. So of course my laser-focused friend also pre-booked a Fantastic Four showing on a Tuesday, so it's time to find out how convenient it is to make a ticket exchange.

Oh, okay. You lose mad old points for saying that instead of Ben Gay.

Pffffft. Tiger Balm predates Bengay by decades. It's what real old men used.

Golden Girls is a mighty damn fine show, no matter what age you are. I am hoping, without any hint of humor, sarcasm, or irony, that the show gets a Blu-Ray box set release some day. Mrs. Burrito and I would wake up, have our morning tea, and watch that show together before we headed off to work.

Y'all get that sorted out over the Early Bird Special at Denny's? Good. Now you can put your Tiger Balm on, slip in to your comfy slippers, and watch Matlock before going to bed. Big day of mall walking for you olds tomorrow.

I get what you mean by that. My intention was a call out, not an accusation or label. I don't think Blue is a person that is intentionally racist, sexist, ageist, etc. My wording probably should have been better so I'm sorry if you were offended by it.

I've known Blue for almost 25 years and he checked on me regularly after I had my stroke. He showed more compassion to me than my own family. If he is ageist, then I am Albert Einstein.

I'm not whining, nor am I offended. I just made an observation and you decided to counter with a knee-jerk reaction.

Perhaps you are too set in your ways to see that. /s

You are correct -- it's not racist or sexist. 'Olds' is an ageist term, which is becoming an increasingly identified social issue -- primarily in the workplace. Are you saying older people don't deserve the same respect as one should be given based on their race or gender?

Terminology aside, even if 'olds' is deemed not offensive, the issue is the stereotype more than anything else. There are plenty of people aged 65+ that do not mall walk. Assuming that all of them do is disrespectful.

Take a hint from Blue -- stop trying to be right about everything and maybe consider some intelligent discussion / reflection on the topic.

OK so let's try it this way just so you understand.

Classist:
...there are a lot of poors who apparently took a break from ignoring the function of their bootstraps...

Sexist:
...there are a lot of women who apparently took a break from getting in the kitchen and making a sandwich...

Racist:
...there are a lot of blacks who apparently took a break from eating fried chicken and watermelon...

What is the standard for demographic stereotyping and why are you the one who defines it?

Also, it's "your", not "you're".

Ageist much, Blue?

Their age had nothing to do with it and it's disrespectful to stereotype any demographic on such a broad scale. They were just rude.

I caught Ballerina this afternoon. I'd say it was better than expected, and fit well in the John Wick universe. I've seen all of Len Wiseman's previous movies, and I think this was his best. Certainly the best since the original Underworld.
