Following a head-start for pre-purchasers, Dune: Awakening is now officially available on Steam for Windows, offering a multiplayer survival game set on the unforgiving world of Arrakis from the Dune novels and movies. The PC launch comes with the news that console gamers can expect this to arrive on PlayStation and Xbox some time next year. A new trailer called Your Path to Awakening is here to introduce the game. Pour yourself a refreshing glass of recycled water and read on for more:
More than just survival, Dune: Awakening offers a large-scale, persistent and highly immersive world with social hubs bustling with other players, server-wide politics and intrigue, and a cinematic storyline that will leave you at the edge of your seat.
The Fremen have vanished. Paul Atreides was never born. Lady Jessica obeyed the Bene Gesserit and gave birth to a girl. Duke Leto Atreides survived the assault on Arrakeen and is now locked in a brutal conflict with the Harkonnen over Arrakis and its precious spice.
In this unique but still familiar take on the iconic sci-fi universe of Dune, you begin as a prisoner sent to Arrakis to uncover the mystery of the Fremen’s disappearance. Following in the footsteps of the mysterious desert tribe, you will learn the true meaning of desert power as you rise from a nameless survivor to becoming an agent of the Atreides or the Harkonnen.
Alone, with friends, or any of the hundreds of players you share Arrakis with, can you survive the most dangerous planet in the universe?

People have mentioned you can rent private servers, but can you just run your own?

bRUH, nobody is paying to lose.
"Head start." What nonsense, it's the real release of the game. Marketing speak.

You can rent private servers, but yes they're online only. This is an MMO-lite, but you can solo a great deal of the game. Though it's a more fun and also easier with a duo or a group of four. Not just the PvE content, but stuff like resource gathering.
For sure, you can Solo, but man it can get hard if you run into a bunch of Shielded enemies. Having another person along goes a long way in helping out.
FYI to those who may not know this. Deploy your sand bike before any engagement's. its a spawn point if you die.

Though you need lubricant to keep them going, that's also pretty easy to make in large quantities.![]()
Yeah, okay, I'm childish. Nevertheless... Is this how the worm works?

The Worm is on loan from Star Citizen, Dune will have to return it when Chris Roberts releases Squadron 42.

Can you play offline? Or are you locked in to one of their servers ?

Been enjoying it. Really fun to see the sandworm pop up right behind me and barely get away. The AI for NPCs is pretty shit though. And I've only seen three enemies to kill (regular dude, dude with knife and shield, big dude with shield and big gun). I haven't been to the Deep Desert yet as I don't care for PVP. I'm also finding it harder to maintain interest knowing that as soon as I lapse for a couple weeks, my whole base and everything I own will be gone. I return to Fallout 76 from time to time because I know my fort is still there and I'm not starting over.
