Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Announced

Activision officially announces Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, calling this the "first-ever consecutive release within the popular Black Ops series," making the repetition sound like innovation. It is set in the year 2035 where we find a "world in peril and on the brink of chaos," which seems like a stretch, but we'll roll with it. An Official Teaser features a cinematic introduction by one of our future robot overlords, and the Call of Duty Blog has the first details. Here's a bit:

In Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Treyarch and Raven Software are bringing players the most mind-bending Black Ops ever. Developed as the next evolution of Black Ops, this is the first-ever consecutive release within the series, set more than 40 years after the events of Black Ops 6. The year is 2035 and the world is on the brink of chaos, ravaged by violent conflict and psychological warfare following the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. Wielding cutting-edge technology, David Mason and his team must fight back against a manipulative enemy who weaponizes fear above all else.

Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, talks more about the planning behind Black Ops 7’s full package of content: “The Black Ops universe is amazing. The creativity and imagination that goes into the storytelling, the rich character depth, and the incredible moment-to-moment gameplay across all modes is really exceptional. As a team, our vision from the start was to create a back-to-back series experience for our players that embraced the uniqueness of the Black Ops sub-franchise.”

I enjoyed the campaigns for 1 and 2 so this is a pleasant surprise. Hope it doesn't disappoint.

Edit: LOL. Apparently I said the same thing almost exactly one year ago.

Like I said, don't let the old grumpy bastards spoil your fun. Just... stay off my lawn and get a damn haircut, okay? 😝

They put out the best 1st person shooter campaigns year after year. I am all for that.

The really sad part here is: You're not even wrong.

Many shooters don't even do campaigns anymore and those that do have the shittiest campaigns with no story whatsoever. Immersive shooters like Dishonored/Prey are a once in a decade thing. Tactical shooters with SP campaigns (like R6 Rogue Spear or the Ghost Recons) have all but died completely.

In a world of simpleton shit like DOOM TDA it is easy for CoD to shine with its story campaign because there are no alternatives anymore. The narrative-driven FPS is all but dead.

*Cue the Ben Stein "wow"...*

Hey, if you like CoD, then game on... but do we really have to pretend to be surprised every year that a new CoD is going to come out? EACH AND EVERY YEAR?

!00% agree. It's a shameless cash grab though they keep selling and peeps keep buying.

It's called the free market. If stupid people keep buying, then why wouldn't they keep selling? Nothing to be ashamed about.

I enjoyed the old school Treyarch zombie maps. The last COD that was good was MW2019. It was a solid reboot with much improved gunplay and realistic tone and its ground war mode was great… but they didn’t use it in later titles. Now it’s just goofy arcadey pig slop.

What’s happening since is a total waste of time. This series is abhorrent to me now.

. Remember when CoD skins looked like actual soldiers?

Yes, I do.. now they mostly look like Ai slop. I also remember the outrage when developers used real world guns models an Warfighters. This is why we cant have anything nice.

Let me guess. 70 USD, 70 GBP, 80 EUR.
- Mediocre 8 hour single player campaign with linear level design. I would rather have a 4 hour Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty experience.
- Player skins are a clown parade. Let's just hope Battlefield 6 doesn't f*ck this up.
- Leveling weapons is a boring time sink. In Battlefield, you could at least level guns versus bots.
- Configuring weapons attachments is a pain in the a**. In the Delta Force game, you can easily export and import any weapon build via a copy & paste code.
- Some players are damaged beyond repair. I ran a search for player names containing words like "gas" and "jews" in the current COD Warzone earlier this year. ATVI doesn't even bother to prevent this from happening.

!00% agree. It's a shameless cash grab though they keep selling and peeps keep buying. I just got tired of them recycling crap and making you buy 'the latest'. That and how stupid most skins look now. Remember when CoD skins looked like actual soldiers?

They'll never stop making Call of Duty games, and I think I retired from playing any CoD game already like 10 years ago...
