I think that was my point, except you're trying to say we do it out of the goodness of our hearts. I'll agree that most Americans don't have a problem with it for that very reason, they want to help. However, our government is the one that decides what's in our interests and where we will send money, military hardware, humanitarian aid, etc. They don't do it because there is need. They do it because there is opportunity. They choose who to ignore and who to support depending on how it will improve our influence in the region, not on who needs it the most or any other such factor. If you think otherwise, you aren't really paying much attention. Most of the real reasons and our real actions are classified. If we're lucky we'll find out what they are through the Freedom of Information Act in about 30 years.
