Out of the Blue

I've been targeting today to launch the first experiment in Operation Attend a Movie, which I mentioned Monday. If this becomes a regular thing for me I'm sure I'll get more used to the timing. But for now it's still a work-in-progress so there's a greater-than-zero chance I'll regroup and try again some other time. But things seem to be working out so far, so I'll see how it goes.

The last movie that I saw in a theater was Flow. It was definitely worth seeing on the big screen. I already have my 4K copy ordered and I am looking forward to watching it again soon.
Flow was nice when I saw it on Max at home. Weird ending, but whatever.

I rarely go to theatres too. My last one was Ne Zha 2 with my colony on a hump day at 3:30 PM showing in a local old theatre. Theatre was outdated, but it was nice to be the only ones in the big room! Also, I don't like going out alone.

Blue needs a movie group party. Let's go! I just need a t(ele/rans)porter/portal. Does anyone have one?

they are ok but get a bit samey. Still worth a read. Made me want to get a brass plaque for the door that says wizard.
Got all novels, and enjoyed for a few the fantasy, till the always without money, dumpster driving, habitually pratfalling, whiny protagonist got too near reality.

Don't hit the theaters very often anymore, but the wife and I went to see Thunderbolts yesterday at a matinee, and had dinner afterwards. Good times. Our theater was renovated during covid with power recliners which makes it quite comfy.

Movie was okay. Nothing super special, but entertaining enough.

I mean I can somewhat understand people who are mistrustful of the Covid shots (even though their argument amounts to "it wasn't tested for long enough" and is still pretty much BS) but people who straight up think that measles or polio vaccines etc. (which have been around for decades) can somehow give you Autism.....yeah......sorry Dr. GoogleSearch, I bow to your superior knowledge and wisdom.....and now we have people like that in the highest echelons of politics....

The world is going insane, and it's speeding up.

It's just how the world turns, like 15 or so years ago the anti-vaxxers were all leftist loons. Encouraging people to eat healthy, exercise, and cut out soda was straight up communism. Motherfuckers were chaptering patriots out of the military just for being fat or failing PT tests. Now that shit is MAGA AF!

RFK and Trump's conspiracy bent is a big part of it, but anti-China sentiment is in there, too, specifically in their COVID response. China withheld and covered up data from the WHO (and everyone else) and the WHO just went along with the party line they were fed, especially in the early years, claiming that antagonizing China would lead to even less cooperation. And the WHO is straight up anti-Taiwan. A (Canadian) WHO representative pretended not to hear questions about Taiwan for political reasons, and the WHO then accused Taiwan of fomenting racial abuse against their director-general when called out.

So I don't think the accusations of the WHO sucking up to China are completely imaginary. But if the administration actually cared then I think they would have threatened and bullied the WHO into line, as per their MO, instead of withdrawing straightaway. That's probably where RFK and his quackery come in.

Objectively, it is. But many red hats believe WHO is part of the world government which is ruining their lives. So, leaving the WHO makes perfect sense to them. And no, I'm not joking. Just the other day the Homeland Security Secretary said in a Senate hearing:

Well, habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country and suspend their right to...
Before being interrupted by a Senator who told her what "habeas corpus" actually is. This is the level of idiocy Trump thinks is "all the best people".

I'm about 30/70 on going to movies by myself I think.
My parents live across the country, but I probably go to the movies with them the most often still (which is not often), especially for spur-of-the-moment stuff.
I have one friend who will go to big movies locally with me, but we're still only seeing like 2-3 a year, if that.

So yeah, occasionally I want to see something big in theaters that I know they won't go with me, or managed to go without me already... and I'll go by myself.

I think the last one might have been Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny... but that seems like a while ago, I want to say there was something else in between that I solo'd.

If I take a date to the movies, I don't care what we watch. If I'm going to see a movie that I really want to see, I would go alone. It's tougher now that I am disabled; but if I am seeing a movie that I really wanted to see (Godzilla Minus One, John Wick 4) I only go with a family member. My son or my sister usually. My ex hated movies unless they were religious cult movies or alt-right indoctrination, so I am used to it.

DISCLAIMER: If you're offended by how I classified them for brevity's sake, I apologize.

Wow....I think the first movie I attended solo was Interview with a Vampire. I think I was 14 when I saw that (alone *gasp*) but I might be misremembering things. Or thereabouts. Maybe 13? No idea, but I was definitely not allowed to watch it solo, but I managed to sneak in anyway. I was kind of cool for a couple of days at school because of that.

I too am curious of the first movie title

My first solo movie venture was U-571. I saw it in an empty theater in Berkeley...so not only was it my first solo venture to the movies, it was the first time I was solo in the movie theater for the duration of a movie. The cast included McConaughey and Paxton. I really enjoyed it.

I'm in a similar boat. The wife is burnt out on action movies, but I still love 'em. I subscribed to AMC A-list last month, since I figured there'll be enough summer movies I'd want to catch to make it worth the cost. So far, so good. I've been going to at least one movie a week on average, and I'm checking out some stuff I wouldn't normally want to pay for. Almost everything I've seen has been IMAX or Dolby Cinema, so with ticket prices where they are, just one movie a month almost makes up for the subscription price.
