Sony dropped what, 3.something billion on this sh*thole of a company?

Surely there's some clause in that purchase they can pump to reneg the deal? Sue Bungie to hell and back? Either way, between stuff like this, and the nonsense with region-locking PC titles, Sony looks like total arse.

Time to clean house. Kick Bungie to the curb, and move Sony management back to Japan.

This is probably the most press attention this DOA game has gotten. Also, screw you Bungie.

The composite image contains both the original and the stolen. Yes, on left and right.. but that tweet has two examples (so two images with 4 total components). Open the image to full size and look at the teal rectangles and lines connecting them (hard to see in the small thumbnails).

It's a very very strong example, the stealing artist took the exact text, the "aleph" part.
Which is kind of the craziest thing to me, because stuff like that should have some basis in the game's lore, not just be random words stolen from the internet.
But I suppose it probably started off as placeholder and then just stuck around.

It would be like the set design of Alien having "ACME" on everything instead of Weyland-Yutani.

I can't see anything well enough because unfortunately my eyes and my brain don't talk very much anymore. But I'm sure you are correct. Hopefully now that they have been called out on it they reimburse the artist for use of her work. Whether or not it was intentional, it's clearly known now. Pay her. Regardless of your excuse, you used her work. Therefore you have to reimburse her. Probably damages as well, as she was not asked for permission.

Aren't there lawyers who would take the case only getting paid contingent on winning?

This made me picture the "Alien" as Wiley Coyote....because my brain is broken like that..

If what you say is true, my question is "what plagiarism?" Admittedly she is saying this has happened more than once so that just may be another case of an article using a weak example. But those images, apart from a similar style (the layered tiling style) look almost nothing alike. I'm probably missing something, or at least I hope I am.

Is the image in the article a comparison of the two artworks by the respective parties, or are they both by the artist, accusing them?

The one on the left is hers, the one on the right is the game. I am glad they admit it and how it happened, but Bungie has this happen so often that one can not be blamed for assuming the reaction is really "oooh...yeah oops, our bad. Well, anyway...." Nothing changes, the artist is never reimbursed, and eventually the news cycle shifts this out of memory until the next time Bungie does this.

For me, it's easy to say I am not going to buy their shit because I kinda already stopped for all sorts of other reasons. Unfortunately, this industry reveals the actual customer base to not give much of a shit about this kind of thing, so if people were going to buy Marathon before this...I doubt seriously this admission of theft will change that.
