The Mavs’ Cooper Flagg lottery miracle fuels conspiracy theories – and hope - The Guardian. Hope is rarely tangible, but it's more so than those theories. But managing to land the first pick with a 1.8% chance is certainly a neat trick. This should serve as a reminder to the NFL that it desperately needs to implement a draft lottery. Rooting for the Giants on a bad run has found me complaining the team should just tank for the draft after recent terrible starts, which is an awful position to be in as a fan. The only thing worse than hoping your team will deliberately lose is when they actually do it, which has been known to happen. A discussion I saw of this topic pointed out another huge benefit for the league: It could make a big deal out of broadcasting the lottery selection process. This is an organization that's made a 20+ hour broadcast of the draft, which is people reading names. And today is annual trickle of the new season schedule, complete with leaks like it's a matter of life and death, even though the matchups are already set. A draft lottery would have real draw and would promote competitive play. Seems like a no-brainer.
No-brainer Round-up

No, it's not just you, that will be insane. From a writing point of view, passengers on a cruise ship can come from anywhere and could have been doing nearly anything. The storyline options could easily run from smuggling narcotics in surgically implanted bags to an Ebola outbreak...and everything in between. They are probably going to throw a little "Love Boat" type romance and comedy in there as well. It will be ridiculous and way over the top, and people will most likely love it.

Blue, I'm thinking you were also listening to Mike Greenberg on "Get Up" this morning. I agree completely with the idea that incentivizing losing (tanking) is a terrible idea, and that I would probably watch an NFL draft lottery show (which would probably be stretched out to at least 3 hours long).

Doom: The Dark Ages is a blast as of Chapter 5. A few areas in particular stand out:
1) So far, it seems to take the best from 2016 and Eternal...and drop the worst. There are some "you have to be running to make this jump" type of things, but so far...nothing like the platforming gameplay that many people disliked in Eternal. I don't want to get into spoiler-type stuff, so I am not going to give too many more examples on gameplay other than to say that they do a great job of keeping the pacing fast...like a Doom game should be. I am also appreciating the way and the pacing with which the storyline itself is being revealed. Doom is not historically a "deep" franchise IMO. No writing awards are ever expected to be given here. This release isn't going to change that, but like Eternal, the base storyline is at least presented in a way that seems pretty clear-cut rather than leaving a lot of room for interpretation. The cutscenes are well-made as well, and there are auxiliary characters that you (or at least I) find yourself interested in.
2) This game is set in a world where the Slayer is already universally renowned for killing demons, so it wouldn't make sense if you started as a 140lb weakling with a pistol....and you don't. This game does an excellent job of making you feel like the badass you are while following the time-honored Doom tradition of adding to your repertoire as you go along. Little gameplay touches, like jumping from a ledge down to the ground from a great height, do not hurt you; instead, you land with a shockwave that will take out basic enemies in range.
3) People are going to focus on the graphics, and that's fine, but the gameplay sounds and music are pretty damn good as well. Particularly the sound effects. Play with volume UP.
That's all I wanted to say. Carry on.

Anyone who has ever played X-Com knows that a 1.8% chance means the outcome will occur a third to a half of the time.
