Warner Bros. Gaming Revenue Plummets

GamesIndustry.biz has details on the latest financial reporting for Warner Bros., saying the company's gaming revenue fell a startling 48% in Q1 2025, part of an overall 9% decline for the company as a whole. Word is there aren't that many details to sort through:

Warner Bros has published its financial results for the three months ended March 31, 2025, reporting a 48% decrease in games revenue during its first quarter.

The firm does not provide detailed figures for its games revenue (which is part of its Studios segment). Though it attributed the decline to last year's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League failing to meet expectations.

It also attributed the fall in revenue to there not being any new releases during the quarter.

It just sounds like poor management over there and nobody knows how to run the company or make good decisions. There was obvious success in the Batman series and a sure win would have been making another one because that's what the fans wanted. Instead someone came up with a great idea to dump tons of money and resource into a game nobody asked for.

Granted, I get you want to change it up sometimes and take risk, however usually they're calculated. Perhaps they float the idea to the public first and get a response before going all in?

Instead they went all in and thought people would just accept what they were putting out regardless if anyone was interested. Wrong.

WB games had been wasting IPs for decades... go make more GaaS that no one interest.

WB was an early example of going all-in on GAAS. One can only hope their gaming downfall is a precursor to the end of that nightmare.

As long as companies like Take2 and EA are making ~80% to 85% (depending on quarter) of their revenue from live service stuff, well, sure, you can keep dreaming though .

I need to look up a list of games to even see what they have...

Ok Arkham series. Good series
F.E.A.R. when was the last one released? like 2 decades ago?
Lego full series of games - those are decently popular but i don't own a single one nor does it interest me.
Middle earth: that mines of moria game actually kind of interested me for a ltitle but enver went into it as it seems unfinished.

So they have good IP but fail to even know what the fuck to do with it.

MultiVersus sucked, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League SUCKED, Wonder Woman got cancelled, they closed Monolith....

Open Steam. Type "Warner Bros" in search. See what they have.

You can only keep disappointing folks for so long before they start equating your name with disappointment. At this point, the franchises that continue to use them for video game publishing are getting what they deserve.

It's ironic that the game they least wanted to succeed (Hogwart's - a singleplayer oneshot game with minimal avenues for recurring spending) made them the most money in recent memory by far.

Are we surprised? These morons invested heavily in the wrong games and pulled money out (and closed studios) from potentially block buster titles. Then there's the worst of both worlds, see: Monolith Productions.

A good example of a company that chases short-term gains at the expense of long-term growth. They enjoyed a strong quarter or year, only to face poor performance soon after. In contrast, investing in high-quality content may be more costly upfront but yields more stable, sustainable returns over time. Studios should always strive for the long-term instead of the short-term.

Revenue does tend to go down when you cancel all your games and don't release anything.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?
