CNN reports on the impact of today's deadline that requires U.S. domestic air travelers to present REAL ID-compliant identification. I find it weird that this is surprising anyone, as the REAL ID act was passed in 2005 and the original deadline for new ID was 2008. But 20 years(!) after it was mandated, and 17 years after it was first supposed to take effect, this is still catching people off guard.

I live off mine. I have only a permanent residence card/status living here. I have to keep my US passport up to date and safely stored in my apartment for the rest of my life. Or until I forfeit my US citizenship. Which is on my to do list at some point.

If you don't have real id, a passport works too.

They should have just made it so that anytime a new ID is requested, you could only get a Real ID. Instead it was left to individuals to guess what the government is doing (like taxes) which never ends well.

I finally got my Real ID last year. I doubt I'll ever need it for domestic travel since I never go anywhere, but doesn't hurt to be prepared anyway.

I don't know that this is true, but I feel like Andor is targeted at an older audience because it takes place during a time that the older audiences are far more interested in, compared to say the prequels, on average. I am torn because I really want Star Wars to gtfo out of the Skywalker/Palpatine era, but at the same time this show is easily the most interesting and entertaining SW show I have watched...and I have really liked nearly all of the other stuff. Andor is just a whole level above it all.

If you have a driver's license, why would you not have gotten it by now? I've had a Real ID driver's license for over 10 years.

I'd pretty much forgotten that was a thing until I saw the panic over it today. I don't remember having to do anything special to get it. I remember when I renewed it, they just asked if I wanted it.
