Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer

"Oh, just fixing some leaks," is some relevant dialog from the beginning of Trailer 2 from Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar released this new look at the upcoming open-world RPG today, presumably to help ease the sting of the game's recently announced delay. The description has a bit of on the game's dual protagonists:

Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.

Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5, comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes.

Great trailer, is it prerendered or in game?

It's rendered 'in engine' and 'captured on a PS5' (Which means it wasn't rendered on one). It's probably pretty close to how gameplay will look though.
I bet it was captured on a PS5Pro.

Nah. There's no such game what would ever deserve that pricing... especially when there's the expectation of additional paid DLCs

Only if a base game's 100 hours long, then maybe

The hours-to-money ratio is such a stupid way to measure value.

Not always - but if you only value your time at $1 an hour then yeah it is!

There is no way a current gen console can do even close to that - in fact I'm pretty certain my PC would struggle and it is nearly as good as possible. With the current delay and the current gen coming up for 5 years old I wouldn't be at all surprised to see another delay and it being a PS6 launch title.

At the end of the trailer it says it was captured on PS 5, for what that's worth.

IF that is true then either the video is definitely souped up or it is all pre-rendered crap and no gameplay whatsoever. Or both. Souped up pre-rendered crap.

I dunno what y'all are seeing here that is so impressive(?). Visually, to me, it looks about on par with any other AAA slop that is available for current gen consoles. Maybe even a little worse if you compare it to real high fidelity shit like that Indiana Jones game.

Also, there wasn't any real gameplay (with UI) in this trailer and it is a MARKETING video that is guaranteed to be souped up in some way. I'd bet real money the assholes pre-rendered this on an entire datacenter and then ran this crap on a high end PC with RTX 5090 while still planning to delay the PC version for two years. They love the PC to showboat but then still prioritize consoles. Them fucks.

Unless all of the stuff in the trailer was from prerendered cutscenes anyway, this slop won't look even half as decent on consoles when it comes out. I bet we're looking at the PC version here, i.e. the inevitable remaster for PS6 indeed.

Current gen consoles won't all of a sudden be able to do magic just because a fucking game is called GTA VI. Let's be realistic. R* is going to have to work within the same limitations as every other dev on the planet. Let's stop pretending otherwise as if they have supernatural abilities or something. They don't.

Apparently they never use pre-renders for trailers. Don't blame you for thinking that though, VI looks amazing. I get all the series bashing depending on what you like/don't like with GTA in general as it's gone through the decades (!) but you can't ignore what's they're trying to achieve with the tech. I thought V was realistic enough, but this is just on a whole other level.

I never liked Online, but Story Mode was worth at least one playthrough. It does have its annoying moments, missions I don't want to do like the yoga mission, the tennis mission, the silly Trevor Rage missions. But there are some great moments in game cinematics, and the trio of characters combine well. I actually like Trevor the most, as off-putting as he is, I like his convictions and his sense of moral agency - I don't like his opinions, they're pretty terrible, but I love the voice actor's delivery and the determination they baked into Trevor's characterization. Humorous moments like when Trevor kidnaps the crime boss' aging wife, and despite that, she actually seems to not mind living in Trevor's trailer, and turns it from a nasty dirty trailer to a clean, tidy, spick and span trailer. Those stick out. And some of the bigger missions and heists.
The game world itself was the best-realized to date in the series, even quiet little areas the story missions never touch like industrial docks, are all filled out as if they are used by the NPCs. There aren't really any barebones shacks like you'd find in Skyrim or Elden Ring.
Cautiously optimistic here. I'm positive there's going to be horrible MTX and predatory Shark Card shenanigans but I'll simply ignore Online and stick to the story mode. This may be Rockstar's very last kick at the can without Dan Houser at the helm. GTA VII, if it comes into being, or RDR 3, may just not have that creative spark that Houser brought to the previous games, and we might find that with his departure, R$ has no creative bones left to do anything particularly interesting or novel.
