2 reasons from my in depth analysis. The villains were extremely "current year" trendy and pretty cringe-worthy in places, and the little girl was a bit of a whiny brat. The rest of the complaints can literally be leveled at every game of the series equally, so I disregarded them for the purpose of answering your question about why specifically the 3rd receives more than the usual hate. Personally, I think that what made the villains seem so awful was the contrast with Handsome Jack. In truth they were maybe a tad annoying, but not too bad. And I have a real world daughter; Ava was NOT that bad. If anything, maybe a bit too realistic.

I find it interesting how polarizing the series is, but how different the takes are.

For me I liked Borderlands, I loved Borderlands 2, and I kinda hated Borderlands 3.

I did not care for the first game, second was great on normal but I don't like the slag mechanic on the higher difficulties, BL3 gameplay was imo the best of the lot, but the story is maybe less interesting, still the one I played the most (around 1300-1400 hours give or take)

I don't hate BL3 but I found it to be utterly bland after the first two games in the series. I guess if people like "more of the same" then I can see the appeal, but I just thought it didn't do enough to stand out from (or significantly improve on) its predecessors.

Enjoy the new ToS! Unless you live in those nanny states that Trump hates so much like Australia or the EU that protect their citizens from overly greedy corporations.

I don't hate it, I was just a bit disappointed after BL2. BL4 looks really good!

Is Gearbox actually capable of developing anything other than Borderlands anymore? The only other IP they used to be known for was Brothers In Arms and that series has been dead for a long time now. Most of their other output has been dross like Duke Nukem Forever, Aliens: Colonial Marines, and Battleborn.
