A txeet from Respawn confirms aspects of a report on Bloomberg which stated Electronic Arts is cutting between 300 and 400 jobs and cancelling a planned new game in the Titanfall series. Respawn does say two "early-stage incubation projects" are cancelled, but does not specify what they are. Last month a rumor emerged that an unannounced multiplayer FPS from Respawn was cancelled, and it is the co-developer on the recently announced Star Wars ZERO Company. Respawn also acknowledges lost jobs, calling them "targeted team adjustments." It does not specify how many teammates these have adjusted to the unemployment line, but says the Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi teams were affected. IGN reports it "understands" around 300 jobs were cut, about 100 of which were at Respawn. Here's official word:
At Respawn, bold ideas, creative risks, and passionate storytelling have always defined who we are. That spirit has carried us through incredible highs — and sometimes through difficult changes, too.
As we sharpen our focus for the future, we've made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi. These decisions aren't easy, and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected — their creativity and contributions have helped build Respawn into what it is today. We're offering meaningful support to those impacted, including exploring new opportunities within EA.
Looking ahead, our commitment to player-first experiences remains unchanged. Innovation has always been at the core of Respawn's identity, and it continues to drive how we build the future — from evolving live experiences to crafting new worlds and stories.
For Apex Legends, that means not just delivering competitive, innovative seasons - but expanding what Apex can be. While the team will continue to refine gameplay and bring new ideas to upcoming seasons, we're also investing in what's next for the franchise - exploring bold experiences that push the boundaries of competitive play while staying true to the spirit of competition, creativity, and integrity that our community expects.
Within the Star Wars universe, we're excited to keep building new stories — with the next chapter of the Star Wars Jedi series aiming to raise the bar again for storytelling and gameplay.
To everyone who has been part of our journey — past, present, and future — thank you for making Respawn what it is. We carry your legacy with us into everything we create next

Payroll has to be at an all-time high, and I don't think you can keep employees around between games or with questionable projects. It's probably time for developers to go alone and hire programmers as needed. The days of AAA devs like ID keeping the team around are no longer possible.
Well, I think, Respawn, Needs to, jump ship and find another home. EA is destroying another useful and amazing IP.
They're being forced to lay in the bed they made. This is how they intended their business to work. I say blame them. Truthfully, EA has taken more risks in the past several years than I had ever expected them to; obviously they were going to rein that shit in eventually.

Sirs, have you heard the good word of Star Citizen?

You know what I would like to see? A Privateer game with a massive, open world. Multiple ships, upgrades, missions, factions, etc without mining and scavenging grind.
Yes. Yes to all of it.

EA got lucky as hell with their spinoff pubg thing, but the main Titanfall games, only sold a lot when they were bargain bin games for $5. Titanfall 2's multiplayer, while fun, had a gigantic learning curve that scared off the major audience the game would have needed to be 'successful ' and studios still don't want to focus on single player.
I'm one of those dozen people who own and passionately played both games' multiplayer (and I come back like every two months or so). And if you can find one on a small forum like this, you can bet it was way more than a dozen.![]()
Titanfall 1 was somewhat niche, but Titanfall 2 was pretty popular owing to its awesome single-player campaign.
