Borderlands 4 Arriving Early; Showcase Tomorrow

Gearbox Software reveals Borderlands 4 will suffer the very rare reverse delay, saying it is now expected to launch on September 12th. The looter-shooter was previously expected on September 23rd. Since then Bungie announced extraction shooter Marathon would also arrive on September 23rd. But if this is intended to dodge some direct competition, it should be noted that Grand Theft Auto VI is also due in Q3 of this year, so perhaps Gearbox has some inside knowledge from parent Take-Two Interactive of when that will arrive. This post discusses, but does not explain the news, confusingly offering the previous Official Launch Date Trailer which now shows the wrong date. Word is we can expect a Gameplay Deep Dive showcase tomorrow at 5:00 pm EDT. Here's word:

Back in our Launch Date Trailer, we showcased a taste of the explosive action, fearsome enemies, and powerful loot that await you. Since then, we've announced that Borderlands 4's launch has moved up to September 12, 2025, meaning you'll get to enjoy the looter shooter action even earlier!

In this upcoming State of Play, strap in with Creative Director Graeme Timmins and Senior Project Producer Anthony Nicholson for over 15 minutes of developer-guided gameplay, including missions, killer weapons, exciting Action Skills, new and returning characters, and more.

What is this terms of service stuff people are talking about? What was changed?

"Gearbox Software's Terms of Service (ToS) allows for changes, suspension, or discontinuation of its online services at any time, including the availability of features or content. They also have the right to terminate or suspend access to online services and accounts immediately, without prior notice, for any reason. Additionally, Gearbox can modify, alter, or sunset services for various reasons, including improving services, fixing bugs, or addressing new technical requirements."

As mentioned, this is retroactive. So while these types of "warnings" are normal for modern games OR can be considered a "heads up - buyer beware" for new games.....this has been slammed on their old games as well....which is why everyone is EXTRA pissed*.

Along with that is the mandatory arbitration + waiver of class-action/jury trial rights, of course. But what's really ruffling feathers* is the blanket claim to 'irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive and sublicensable right to use, reproduce, edit, modify, adapt, create derivative works based on, publish, distribute, transmit, publicly display, communicate to the public, publicly perform, and otherwise exploit' all user-generated content, AS WELL AS reserving all rights to and ownership of what they're calling 'custom content,' which includes screenshots, videos, audio recordings, gameplay clips, and livestreams... Which would mean, as soon as they start enforcing it, that they are the ones who get paid from anybody featuring their games on Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, etc.

Don't forget that you also will not use any cheats or mods or other hacks or exploits to gain unfair gameplay advantage, or use a VPN while playing their games, or else you may have your game data reset, be banned from online services, and/or have your software license revoked. Same goes for engaging in any behavior at all which they may deem to be abusive, hateful, or obscene. Like camping.

*There are a lot of negative reviews going up blasting them for stealing and selling personal info, but I didn't catch that in what I read of it myself. Only mentions I saw of your name, address, etc. were in the section about how to report a DMCA violation.

Oh the retroactive new ToS. Funny how that's even legal.

I'm no the only one who is not a fan of the series? But to be fair I dislike looter shooters. I played the first and second one and the humor was maybe eyebrow raising worthy it wasn't amazing. Claptrap was kind of cool.

Not the only one who is not a fan? Dude, people who post opinions on it here are negative at around a 20 to 1 ratio...
Well I'm used to everyone saying positive things about Borderlands series (other than the movie) in real life, so I felt alone in not liking the series.

Hey I love it. Even the Pre-Sequel and BL3. Dunk away; I'm immune. 🙂
The BL series is one of my favos. Even liked the movie for what it was. I bounced off the Pre-Sequel the first time (probably bc i was playing as Claptrap) but tried again a year later with Handsome Jack and loved it. The only one I haven't liked is Tiny Tina, despite loving her BL2 DLC. No idea what folks are on about RE BL3, thought it was as good as BL2.
RIP RedEye9. We miss you.

No interest at all. I was fine till Borderlands 2, then 3 was just so meh. Now with the ToS changes, yeah F**k em. I just don't care about the series at all anymore. I even deleted the Borderlands 2 install I had after reading about the ToS changes because I don't agree with them.

Fuck this series, at this point. I didn't know about the changes to the TOS, Prez, but it seems par for the course for Gearbox.

4-5 games in, still have horrible controls for weapons/inventory, when they could have just copied Half-Life 1 or 2, or any semi recent FPS. (On PC, I'm sure it makes more sense for console gamepads)

Also, massive bullet sponge enemies, 99.99% of weapons are trash, etc.

I still have some hope for the new DOOM, but the FPS looter style game is basically dead.
