Out of the Blue [Apr 23, 2025, 11:58 am ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
I'm very sad to share the news of the passing of one of our own, RedEye9. I'm
pretty broken up after learning this was the cause of the recent absence of this
long-time reader, contributor, and forum participant. In trying to get in touch
with him, Beamer uncovered the news that he died in early February of this year,
just a day or two after his final post here. RedEye9 loved games and he loved
this site, and his passion is sorely missed. At least for most. That passion
extended to politics to an extreme degree, and he had more than a few clashes
about this in the forums. So this could be a little touchy for some, but I hope
past grievances do not extend to the grave.
Heartfelt condolences to his friends and family, and rest in peace to our
comrade.

Also wanted to give my condolences. I didn't know him personally, but I recall our fun interactions every now and then here on the forums. I have been missing his witty comments on Blue's, and now I know why he hasn't been posting

Damn, RedEye9 was a familiar name around here, and I'll be sad to not see that name by so many posts and comments. Even when arguing it felt like he was always trying to add to the conversation, not shut it down, which I appreciated especially as so many communities turned increasingly toxic and divided. Heaven snagged a sometimes passionately vitriolic but deeply invested and contributing member of our community.
Rest in Peace RedEye9, as a long time reader, very sad indeed.
Just back from a cruise to this sad news. I wish I had gotten to know him better because I think we have similar views. Blues won't be the same without him, RIP.

You guys inspired me to check my email... Turns out he did try to contact me a few times... usually in regards to the various trolls/bigots he and I engaged with...

but I know both of us did tend to "bother" even when we knew it might be pointless.

even though i haven't been a frequent user of this site in about a decade i still somehow remember RedEye9 from back in the day.
We had many disagreements over the years but we had a mutual love of the site and I always understood your political convictions. Sometimes respect takes a long time to form over challenge rather than friendship but I hope we got there in some way.

Now that you mentioned it, it's true that I haven't seen him post in a long while.
He and I didn't always see eye to eye, but he seemed like a good person.

I always pictured him about 19 for some reason, but from some of the posts here I guess that's not right. I gather he voluntarily decided to check out? It was interesting as it was just today that I wondered where he was as he was always "snagging" the freebies that Blue reported on...;) It's kind of weird that he was on my mind just recently--guess his frequently argumentative posts stuck with me for some reason! He didn't seem to like posts that expressed strong opinions, while his own posts were as opinionated as mine, certainly...;) I didn't know him, but I will think of him. It seems surreal. RIP, RedEy9!

It makes sense why it feels a little more "empty" in bluesnews the last couple months.
Bluesnews is a little less without him. We've lost a little piece of what made this place great. I hope the rest of you all live inhumanly long lives.
