Metro Franchise Sales are now underway on GOG.com* and Steam. These celebrate the 15th anniversary of 4A Games' FPS series based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novels set in the Moscow Metro system following an apocalypse. This includes a 100% discount as part of the promotion, and you can pick up Metro 2033 Redux for free on GOG.com and Steam. You have a couple of days to collect and the game will added to your library (protip: the GOG.com version is DRM-free, so it's more "for keeps" than the Steam edition). This remaster of the first installment in the series illustrates how time flies, as it is now over a decade old, after being released only four years after the original. Here's the description:

I've played all of them, including the VR version. Great series, but not perfect. The filters that last a few minutes being my biggest complaint. Feels incredilby artificial, and limits the ability to explore and get immersed.

Seems I also own Last Light as well, maybe that was free? Or maybe I bought both as part of a package.
I enjoyed all three, but the original was the best, and the Redux version added a lot of QOL improvements that made it even better.

I have realized that I am very sensitive to prose and is a big factor why the new Dune books not written by Frank Herbert are so bad compared to the old books written by Frank Herbert. His prose is so much better.
I used to love this game, finished it more times than I can count. I prefer the non-redux version simply because at one point you're offered a choice of a weapon, and in the original you can take the ones you don't want first and sell them for precious bullets.
Sequel was crap though, they really wanted to be some Hollywood cinematic discount-CoD masterpiece so it was just a lame scripted setpiece after lame scripted setpiece instead of any sort of freedom to do your own thing. But 2033 was great, and even inspired me to read the book which was also great, although there too I didn't care for the sequel.
Exodus is good! The biggest problem I had with it was that everyone is so damn chatty and will yammer on for absolute ages at the slightest opportunity, but I guess generally you can just walk off. I get kinda completionist though and feel like I'll miss something so I just sit there and wait for the 20 minute monologue to end while fiddling with my phone or something, but that's a me problem really 
I haven't played the 3rd Metro game yet. I liked the first and most of the second game. I should put Metro 3 on top of my pile Mount Everest of shame.

Bought these a couple of years ago on sale for both at $5. Since I don't own my games and only renting them who cares.
I played the original years ago, but it didn't grab me after a couple of hours. Maybe time to revisit.
