Max Payne Demo Released

As promised, 3D Realms has now released the playable demo of Max Payne, offering you an opportunity to try out the gritty third-person action game by Remedy Entertainment on the off-chance that you haven't played the full game yet. We have a local copy with mirrors of the 130.8 MB download, which includes a tutorial, the story introduction, and two levels from the full game.

yes, in the full version a popup window is the way you start maxpayne, set video options, etc. You launch maxpayne from this window. At the bottom there would be a drop down box where you would choose eep multi. Perhaps the mod doesn't work with the demo. I'm using it for the full retail version.

How does that thing works ?!?

It askes me to 'choose "Eep Multi" from the pull-down list' ,but i have no idea what or where this pull-down list is.

Perhaps it's something in the full version ?!?

you whine about the graphics being crap...which they are oviously not....

you whine that he looks constipated.....yeah he does, but who really cares ?

you whine about that is keeps on spinning around the people when you kill someone....it proberly did it 8 times in the whole game......

you whine that it ain't realistic.....you therefore don't like any action fps ever made.....

stop thinking of 3ps as 'the enemy' and start thinking of MP as a game.....

I've been a die-hard FPS fan since the genre's beginnings. I never liked 3rd person games, in fact I would say they really pissed me off.

Until Max Payne. My bro said I HAD to try it. So I did. Instantly hooked. It took a really good game to change my perspective on 3rd person (no pun intended).

And bullet time never really got old, it's a very tactical manuever.

Hm, wow, so many of you are so terribly wrong. Max Payne was money well spent, and a great game. That's all.

Most installers have the warning that you need to turn off your virus scanners and any other programs running in the backround. I guess this one just takes a more active approach.

What's up with the Max Payne demo installer? The second I start it, it kills vsmon on win98. This disables zone alarm! I also tried it on a Win95 machine with an older version of zone alarm and same thing! Are they deliberately trying to kill my firewall so they can get info from my computer?! Anyone else experience this weirdness? I have NEVER had this happen before!

Everyone who's a real 3D Action fan already has the game, so why a demo. If you don't own the game, you're no action fan

that's the stupidest thing i've ever heard.

It's not "bullet-time" it's "slow motion" and it's been around since Nintendo NES.
If you're looking at it as "slow motion", you haven't gotten the point. Whatever the snazzy gimmicky name, it's an integral part of the gameplay, and that's a first in gaming history as far as I know.
And this "impressive story?" It mimmicks virtually every cop movie released in the 80s.
Well, that's the point. The story designed to be a gritty thriller, which lends a lot to old movies, while the action-sequences are borrowing heavily from HK-action flicks.

But about the price; $50 is way too much. $20 is what I would judge as a "right" price (imo ofcourse).

Damnit, there are lots of whiners who bitch about several aspects of the game. Don't believe them, if you like movies like Matrix and don't care whether it's 1st or 3rd person. Actually 3rd person was a "MUST" in this case: Otherwise you wouldn't be able to see all the cool moves. Believe me, I played every 3D action game that came out in the last decade, and this one is truly amazing.

"Hell the darn health meter is so gay its not even funny. 5 shotgun blasts to my head and all I have to do is take a "pain pill" to regain health. Talk about Super Mario Brothers! "

You need something to bring your health back down again. What would be better? Floating health-packs? Maybe handy medical centres along the way that Max could pop into for some quick surgery? Of course you'd still moan about it being unrealistic unless you were also forced to wait in ER for 3 hours then spend 30 minutes filling out the relevent medical insurance forms.

At the end of the day it's a game. People have got their hopes up way too much and expected it to change the way we play games forever but who says it was ever supposed to do that? It's just a bit of fun, some cool slow motion (or whatever you want to call it) and a nice story to follow as you play. The developers never claimed it was a work of genius.

I'm an action fan and I don't have it.

I've heard many bad things about it, so a demo is an ideal way for me to check it out first.

But then they release a 130Mb demo, which takes over 12 hours do download on my connection

Cheers,
Xain
