Out of the Blue

We had to cancel dinner plans last night because MrsBlue hurt her foot. It happened early in the day when she slipped on some unseasonable ice in the morning. And while it didn't seem bad at first, it got worse over the course of the day, and by the evening she had a significant limp. She's calling in a sprained ankle, which I know it is not. It's a little swollen, but on top of the foot, and her pain is nearer the arch. I'm wondering if it might be a Lisfranc injury, but it's been so many years since I graduated medical school that I may as well not even be a doctor. She thinks it's better today, and I'm hoping she's right, but I'm also suspecting we may need to go and get her an X-ray tomorrow. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Okay, I feel like an idiot asking this but... Blue didn't actually go to medical school, right? If he did it's news to me.

If he did, his title would be Doctor El Presidente for Life.

Yeah... now I feel incredibly stupid. LOL

I ask because a few years ago I found out by accident that my old navy buddy (with whom I have been friends with for decades now) has his PhD in education. I call him Dr. Josh now.

Why? The DB5 Zagato I can understand. It is a gorgeous car.

But the DB12? I find it amusing they went with Pferdestarke units because it makes the number look bigger. It's ~671HP. That is not impressive in 2025. 202MPH? Very achievable on pump gas with pretty much any car in the GT market or above and some wrench time. 3.6 second 0-60 time? Also very achievable. The gold is tacky and the car design language hasn't changed all that extensively since the DB7. Moreover, it is heavy at nigh on 4000lbs.

For the money they'll want to charge for that boat, you could get a Corvette ZR1 that cranks out 1,064 hp, 828 lbft of torque , has a higher top speed of 215*, 0-60 is 2.3 seconds, out brakes it, out corners it, is lighter, and will absolutely dominate that DB12 on the track or on the streets.

They're both sitting in the GT category so it's an apples to apples comparison.

*215 as limited by the PCM. 3 minutes with a laptop and it'll scoot much faster than that with the appropriately rated tires.

Can someone explain why most grocery items use safety features—like seals, wraps, and tamper-evident packaging—but bread has that little plastic tie? I remember when bread used to have an extra inner plastic wrap (as an easy way to tell if someone tampered with it). A flimsy twist tie doesn't precisely scream "tamper-proof." But why don't we hear about more health scares or serious incidents involving bread? And if something did happen, would the public suddenly be in an uproar over how little protection there is for bread?

Deep thoughts on a Sunday.

That's only for factory made bread. Both of my local grocery stores make bread, slide them in to brown paper sleeves, and call it a day. Not even a plastic tie.

As for safety related concerns, meh. It is very easy to spot if bread has been messed with since it is pretty fragile. Especially the ultra processed, mass produced, air filled junk. Liquids and powders would show up quite readily. But you can't round off all the sharp corners and product security is more theater than practical at any rate.
