So as an update, the game has opened up with some permanant upgrades, along with some of the puzzles becoming a bit more clear. I'm now at 9 hours or so in the game, and have fairly specific objectives that I'm working at, and it does seem the game is better than initially thought after the 4.5 hour mark.

I am definitely enjoying Balatro. Like beer it is a bit of an acquired taste you probably won't like it immediately but as you try it more and more you start to like it and before you know you are 100 hours in.

This looks intriguing. I'll read some more about it and see if it might scratch an itch.

So, i've been playing for about 4.5 hours, about 13 loops in... I'm not sure how I feel about the game. Theres too much non-interactivity. And no real puzzles to solve. Theres been two rooms that have actual puzzles in them. It just seems to be a "hope you get the right resources" game to work your way through. There doesn't seem to be any sort of keeping item mechanics, so its not like you're building up your "power" to get further each time. Unless something changes, I'm probably going to taper out in a few more hours.
Obviously this is next hyped game like Balatro and Dave the Diver and what else the influencers and press wanted to push. The only eI fell for was Balatro because many said that it would turn card game haters into believers. In my case, it absolutely didn't. This is why I stay away from all of those games that "you gotta play" for at least a few weeks.

Balatro is great. Dave the Diver was too long but also pretty sweet. These aren't "influencer games," or whatever, RogueSix, they're fun little unique games with new ideas and very few flaws.

Intrigued enough, I'll give it just under a couple hours on Steam and see if it sticks or not.

I typically love stuff like this, so I went ahead and picked up a copy. It is relatively cheap. Really a lot of the break out hits have been cheaper games. May be an interesting strategy for game companies to consider.

It feels like the witness to start off with, but difference being that start in a hallway and then pick from a set of possible rooms. Each room consumes steps and when you run out the game is over for the day. Some rooms contain extra steps, others keys, and... that is as far as I have gotten.

Never heard of this game before. One of the best games ever made? That's quite a statement. You're talking Witcher 3 territory for me with that kind of comment. Now you got my attention.

A bit of a clickbait title for sure, but the reviews are solid across the board and it is likely excellent if you like the puzzle genre. I noticed it dropped on GamePass and I am curious to check it out.

To be fair to the reviewer, he beat the game at around 20 hours in, and has 200 hours in the game so far and is still playing it. Doesn't really sound like clickbait, he's clearly enjoying it a lot.
