Secret to stronger pour-over coffee with no extra beans unlocked by scientists - The Guardian. Thanks Max and Neutronbeam. This makes me wonder if it relates to how my coffee comes out too strong when I use the recommended quantity of beans. Everything guideline I find calls for between a 14:1 and 20:1 ratio of water to coffee. But what landed on is 50 grams of coffee for 1.2 liters of water, which is 24:1. And it comes out quite strong, to boot. My grinder is on the coarsest setting, so perhaps my pour-over technique is partly to blame? After all, I am pouring from my soaring height of six feet tall (I'm actually 5'10", but a while back a friend warned me that men are generally dishonest about their heights, so everyone assumes you're cheating a couple of inches). I don't know. I'm still puzzling over this, but in the end, I guess it doesn't matter how far off we are from recommended guidelines as long as we're enjoying our coffee.
Strong Round-up
Thanks Ant, Neutronbeam, and Max.Breakfast Link

At any rate, the Alien Queen is now a Disney character and should be fetishised accordingly.
Well, that makes me comfortable, because Queens in Disney films live very short lives.

I have many Japanese friends, and I asked them what they thought of this new Predator, and they were very offended. there were no Predator aliens during the age of the Samurai. Damn you Disney!!!!

I understand nothing about coffee. I mean it is bitter unless you add sugar to it and then milk/cream to make it a nice drink. starbucks always tastes burned to me so I don't get the appeal. Some people do pouring rituals and such. Does that make a difference? No idea. So to me I just drink it black for the kick and avoid the calories from additives.

Actually something I think about often. Clean water, abundant food, medicine, sewage systems, the internet, etc. We live in a world where miracles happen daily in our lives, and we take them for granted.
