Atomfall Released

Rebellion announces Atomfall has dropped, and this postapocalyptic survival game is now available for PC, Game Pass, and PlayStation, and Xbox. You can pick up the Windows edition on the Epic Games Store and Steam, and while there isn't a launch discount, there's an opportunity to pay more for the Deluxe Edition (also available as an upgrade). This is an alternate history game based on real-world nuclear accident in the UK in the 1950s, and its Britishness is a stated feature (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Churchill?). Here's more on that, the game, and the deluxe version:

A UK-based post-apocalyptic survival-action game, Atomfall is inspired by the real life Windscale nuclear incident in the 1950s. Players will embark on a fictionalized adventure meeting a cast of weird and wonderful characters as they try to uncover the mystery of what happened at the Atom Plant and escape the Quarantine Zone.

Atomfall’s Deluxe Edition is available digitally. This Deluxe Edition gives players the Basic Supply Bundle DLC, which offers additional items and supplies to uncover as you explore, including an exclusive melee weapon variant, additional loot caches and an item recipe. It also gives players an Enhanced Supply Bundle, which includes an exclusive pistol variant, metal detector skin and character upgrades. Alongside this, players will also enjoy access to the Story Expansion Pack: Wicked Isle DLC when released*. Players who purchase the Standard Edition can purchase the Deluxe Upgrade to enjoy the same additional content.

Replayability (quiet you; it's a word!) is important for me too. This looks pretty good to me.

Incidentally Call of Duty started having 4 hour campaigns for 60 bucks years ago. Yeah I know; multiplayer; but I almost never touch Call of Duty multiplayer. The ones I bought for 50 bucks or more had set piece/insanely over-the-top campaigns that made it feel worth it to me. Obviously I don't go near CoD games nowadays for anything less than 75% off if at all, but I'm talking back in the day.

I'm also fine with shorter gameplay experiences under two conditions:

1. The quality of the game is superb for the length.
2. The price reflects the length.

I'm certainly not going to pay $50 for a 15 hour game. I'll wait until it goes on a deep sale and pick it up then.

It looks like the kind of game I will get to eventually. It's getting hard for new releases to skip to the front of the backlog without being "HOLY SHIT THIS GAME IS FUCKING AWESOME" levels of reviews these days. Anything simply good or even above average finds itself waiting not only for a sale, but for its turn in line. I agree with some others about the game time. I will gladly take a tight and well-done 15-20 hours over a 40-60 borefest any day. I don't necessarily look at a shorter-than-average completion time as a shortcoming.

I'd rather see a lean 15 hours than a bloated 30.

Had to do a deep dive on the real incident. Britain was lucky!!! Game looks interesting, but reviews seem to suggest a short game, have seen 5- 15 hrs, up to 20 if you are a completionist. Anyway, will wait for the price to drop. Seems a tad expensive for the length of play. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0DXndsQ0H4

That's my main concern, too, same as with almost everything Rebellion makes... Their stuff just isn't high quality enough to pay full price for a campaign that's over in ten hours or less. Maybe when it's 75% off.

I had pre-ordered a while back, maybe I’ll load it up and give it a look, but so many games have come out the past week I imagine it’s not really a great time.

Major bug on Series X for me: sound just cuts out. Home - Series X menu sounds normal, return to game, no sound. Controls are a bit clunky as well, not particularly smooth.

Same. Definitely interested in this but not Day One interested. Will wait for sale (or Humble Bundle) down the road.

Looking forward to some Bluesnews reviews from posters here. Just give me that little push needed to buy it. Or dash my hopes.
