Game Informer Returns

A post on Game Informer informs us that Game Informer is once again Game Informer, as the site and entire staff are back following a shutdown last August. There's also a video covering the news. Awkwardly, the games journalism site is now operated by game developer Gunzilla Games, the studio behind NFT battle royale Off The Grid. But the post states it will operate with complete editorial independence:

How did this all happen? After first touching base with our team and ensuring our interest, the team at Gunzilla Games secured the rights to Game Informer. From the start, the new owners insisted on the idea of Game Informer remaining an independent editorial outlet; they felt just as strongly as our team did that the only path forward was with an editorial group that made 100 percent of the decisions around what we cover and how we do so, without any influence from them or anyone else.

I won't go into it, but I followed several of the creators who left the Escapist after it was inevitably destroyed by corporate stupidity (these things always happen eventually), but suffice it to say that a few creators splintered off from Second Wind just as fast due to sliminess at the top. I don't do drama, but I'm a big fan of one of the whisteblowers fwiw. Croshaw's (for some reason I have thought his last name was "Cremshaw" for decades) own statement of "support" reads like an excuse as to why he's not leaving more than anything else really. Yahtzee never liked drama. I get it.

Still better than the original owner, Alexander Macris, who will probably try to sue me for mentioning his name.

Well you're definitely not wrong. What an immense piece of garbage he is.

Ah, OK. Fair point. I didn't know about any of that. I just knew he had left The Escapist and co-founded Second Wind. I don't get in to drama at all.

I wouldn't say Ben "Yahtzee" Crenshaw's resurrection isn't going very well. Second Wind, his new YouTube channel, has garnered nearly 500K subs in 7 months.Unless I am misunderstanding you and you're using him as an example that works as an exception to the rule.

Resurrections like this don't seem to go that well very often. (Thinking of Adam Sessler's Xplay and Yahtzee's The Escapist here...)

I am happy for the staff who got their jobs back. I am curious to see what they do with the opportunity.
