There is a Japanese gaming magazine which publishes weekly figures for that region, and this weeb gaming site reports it in English. It's only useful as a relative comparison because it's strictly physical retail sales, but AC: Shadows should show up on the next update in a few days.

For reference, the previous week's #1 was Monster Hunter Wilds with 40.6k copies sold, and the list goes all the way down to #30 with a Japan-exclusive party game from a couple years ago racking up another 1.1k.

According to this article, it is the third best selling pre-order in Japan. That, of course, is not current sales but it may be an indicator.

In truth, and I suspect that this is true for lots of guys back then, the idea of a beautiful, self-assured, adventurous woman, able to beat any dude, who does whatever the fuck she wants while talking in that British accent, did most of the heavy lifting in my mind. In modern times it’s like looking at a suggestively shaped and painted cardboard box. It’s a bit rough.

However back when Tomb Raider came out Lara‘s model was lewd, lascivious, salacious, outrageous! And younger me quite enjoyed the sight as well.

Must be the subscription service (which is also available on consoles) since, as you said, a 64K peak is pathetic. Odyssey was the last AC game that was on Steam day 1 and that one already had a 62K peak back in 2018. A 2025 AssCreed should beat 62K by a lot more than the measly 2K that Shadows "managed".

It is very telling that Ubi keeps promoting engagement in the form of "players" instead of revealing actual sales or revenue numbers. I guess we will find out from a financial report later this year how well it actually performed in terms of €€€.
