It is you who has lost the plot.

It's a story about Ubisoft trying to protect its developers from harassment in the culture wars over this game.

Ignoring that, you focus on the inaccuracies you feel Ubisoft included in the story, seeming to think the important point here is that there are people in Japan upset about this. Therefore implying whatever psycho abuse the developers receive over this is deserved.

20 years ago I would have found this disgusting. Nothing has changed.

Seems he's talking about physically destroying shrines, especially when this was in response to a trailer in which shrines are actually destroyed, but go on, chief. To bad ubisoft didn't use a realistic character like Andrew from American Samurai.

I haven't been following Assassin's Creed Shadows or the controversy of a black lead until today, and it's interesting to see that the character has been depicted in games before. The fact that it's considered an issue in 2025 to the point that that the developers need protection is a sad sign of the times:

As much as I like to dunk on Ubisoft as a company, having to have an antio-harassment plan for the devs is such a fucked-up world. More companies need to include "harassment of company personel" in their ToS as a full-ban reason. And then enforce it broadly, or for multiplayer games, go for "evil" repercussions like losing all your achievements or your collected stuff. Having ranks reset, being unable to talk to other players but thinking you are, it's AI bots doing all the interactions, etc etc.
