MechWarrior 5: Clans Ghost Bear: Flash Storm Revealed [Mar 16, 2025, 1:40 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
The MechWarrior 5: Clans Website reveals Ghost Bear: Flash Storm, a new expansion coming to Piranha Games' mech combat sim on Windows and consoles next month. A listing for the PC edition is live on Steam, and this will be coming to the Epic Games Store as well. There's no video yet, but Steam has some spoilers and details:
Leo Showers is dead. As Ulric Kerensky changes the rules of engagement, Clan Ghost Bear khans Bjorn Jorgenson and Aletha Kabrinski plot their next moves as they strive to take the lead in the race towards Terra. Take command of the Silveroot Keshik, an elite unit tasked with proving Ghost Bear’s strength and reclaiming lost glory.
Engage in a Trial of Possession to claim the powerful Ebon Jaguar and Night Gyr ‘Mechs. Face off against the legendary Second Sword of Light in a battle for control of Alshain, a world replete with ‘Mech factories and orbital shipyards capable of producing warships.
Unleash 4 new OmniMechs and 4 new BattleMechs, and command Elementals as you take the fight to space and beyond in this thrilling expansion!

Agreed. Merc's was... OK, but completely forgettable and just more of the same old Piranha averageness.
Terrible story that's shoved down your throat, along with horrible, teenage actors.
Terrible AI that you are forced to take in to every single mission, whether you want to or not.
Terrible AI that talks constantly e.g. you are in a critical fight, and they are still talking about chocolate milkshakes. Not only do we have to listen to them, but we are also forced to have audio captions of their endless whining as well.
Still endless tank and chopper spam, along with boss aircraft now that are 100x stronger than any mechs. Why even bother with mechs?
The mech customisation is still crap, and overly restricted.
Everything is still just meh.
Time for another studio to have a crack.

Short of giving the IP to FromSoftware, I'm not sure who has the experience to improve upon MW5, which is pretty good. I'm more bummed about BattleTech dying because Paradox mismanaged Harebrained Schemes and declined to greenlight a sequel, forcing them to do Lamplighters League instead
I'm a negative Nancy on it too, I mean at least there is 'something' for MechWarrior, but the franchise is not really being pushed forward. It feels kind of stagnant and not innovative with no one else allowed to do anything with it.
I have to be the negative Nancy. I really wish that someone else who is more capable than Piranha Games got the Mechwarrior license. Piranha Games has had it for a decade and they have made little progress from game to game. It's a shame. Some people have said it was either Piranha Games making Mechwarrior games or no Mechcwarrior games made at all. I refuse to believe that thought I acknowledge the possibility.

I quite like Mechwarrior 5 clans, it wasn't exactly the game I wanted, but I liked it better than MW5: Mercs. I don't know if I'll be shelling out cash for the expansion at launch, but I will be getting it eventually.
