I contacted Oxo about the failing coffee grinder I
mentioned yesterday since it's still under
warranty. The unit it replaced was a simpler Oxo model without a scale that also
died prematurely, but I was open to giving the brand another try if they sent a
replacement. The wrinkle is a new one would take at least a week to arrive. I
could live with this, but their understandable prerequisite is a picture of the
old unit with the cord cut. Since the broken grinder will operate for a few
seconds at a time, I can force it to serve until we get a new one, but not if I
destroy it to their satisfaction. Going without coffee for a day isn't really a
great option for us, much less a week, therefore this was a no-go. So I ordered
a new grinder online and am opting a prorated refund. Oxo's customer service was
actually outstanding, with no voice prompts and an immediate transfer to a very
capable live agent. So I'm sorry I couldn't give it the more profitable route of
replacing the unit, though I've sort of lost faith its coffee grinders equal the
quality of most of its other offerings.

I came into the comments to say the same thing...it'll work fine temporarily. Sounds like you've already made a different decision, but for any recall/replacements you may do from here on out, Flying Penguin's suggestion is the way to go.
