How I understand it, Hector went social media to get his way (does not really matter if his rust argument is correct) and Linus does not like this and refreshingly he simply says so instead of tiptoeing around it. It's not yet the old old Linus but yes he been missed

Definitely how it unfolded. Hector has done some amazing things with Asahi Linux but he gets a little too excited about Rust sometimes and he forgot that things on the LKML stay on the LKML. If he had a problem with it, he has always been free to talk with Linus directly. Linus will pretty much talk to anyone doing active working on Linux. They may not like what he has to say to them, but he has always been able to be contacted.

Jesus... So Nvidia got not enough money to properly test their cards before selling them? WTF? And nevertheless, people buy because... Nvidia. The infallible. Evolution has been taking steps back for some time now and it shows.

Easy, dude. No one is buying these cards because (at least the 90s) they are not available anywhere . It must be reviewers and shitfluencers whose cards might have croaked.

Also, if you read beyond the usual (for WTFTech) clickbait headline, the issue seems to be related to the latest drivers release. I have the same driver installed on my RTX 4090 system and, knock on wood, no problems so far but it seems like RTX 5000 cards could be more sensitive to whatever changes that driver version brings with it.

From the article:

This was common across most reports and as soon as the users installed the latest NVIDIA driver. The issue has become quite complex on various levels to the point that even after rolling back to the previous driver version, the GPU couldn't be recognized on the computer. Some users have reported that even resetting the BIOS couldn't do anything and the GPU would simply refuse to show up in Device Manager or even BIOS as well.

The root cause is unknown, but some reports suggest that this is due to architectural or driver compatibility issues and not related to the hardware itself. We will have to wait for NVIDIA's response on this since nobody has found the solution to the problem that could fix the bricking of RTX 5090/5090D permanently.

Blackwell AI server racks have also been a flop with big tech clients cancelling orders or changing orders to last-gen. Cooling and stability issues. That was happening in Q4'24.
