You also picked some extremely fringe cases. How many people do you know, in person, that do not believe Covid was real?

My elderly neighbor's, that my wife, despite my objections, invite over, are convinced COVID was an elaborate plan to defraud Trump. Not to mention the fact they unironically fly a veterans for Trump flag. The wife mentions a new relative every time that either died or got sick from 'COVID vaccinations'. Misinformation and disinformation are a very real and dangerous problem. Talking sense to them is an exercise is futility due to the amount of propaganda they consume. This is without even getting into my in-laws who in the last 8 years have not once not had Fox News on at least one TV when I enter their house at any time.

Only a child thinks in absolute terms. That if we have limits on "freedom" that we're all slaves. Every group, gang, club, organization, etc. etc. etc. has rules. Sometimes unspoken, but they still exist. People function best with them so there are no misunderstandings about what's considered right or wrong. Or are you arguing that you should get to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater for the lulz? Grow up.

The government made THOUSANDS of requests to Facebook to stifle free speech. That was just Facebook. They made THOUSANDS more with X. I’m sure Reddit had thousands also, but Reddit is still a cesspool of whiney angry people run by people who trust the government and probably have not admitted how many request were made.

Man, your trust in the government is astounding. I don’t care your political leanings as none of us should ever trust the government … ever.

So yes, government tried and succeeded for years.

So, Biden tried something but it didn't work, and Zuckerberg said they tried something on a few occasions, and you're extrapolating this out entirely.

That feels rational to you?

Meta will still ban you for calling people idiots.
And flat earth has risen significantly because of the internet. So has more dangerous things, like the belief that COVID wasn't real, or that immigrants are eating cats, or that Andrew Tate is good for lonely young men.

Most attempts to stop this have failed, but at least something was being done.

And yet it's the same right wing celebrating the end of net neutrality. On one hand Meta shouldn't get to decide what "facts" are suppressed, they should just be a neutral platform, while on the other the upstream ISPs should have the power to decide what data gets prioritized or suppressed, and requiring them to be a neutral provider is fascist.
