The Witcher IV is a single-player, open-world RPG from CD PROJEKT RED. At the start of a new saga, players take on the role of Ciri, a professional monster slayer, and embark on a journey through a brutal dark-fantasy world.
Powered by Unreal Engine 5, it aims to be the most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game to date.
VaranDragon wrote on Dec 13, 2024, 03:22:Yeah, I'm stoked to play as her, but they are going against the lore here. Ciri shouldn't be a Witcher, not because she's not good enough for the role, but that she was built up through all of the books to be something bigger than a crazy wizards mutant experiment. Besides the fact Geralt and others were against her taking the trial of grasses (which would have killed her anyways) Her own use of magic should be completely different and more powerful than that of a Witcher's.
I don't mind Ciri being the protagonist of the next CD Project game on the contrary but, & please correct me if I'm wrong it's been a while since I read the books, according to Sapkowski and the previous Witcher games Ciri is something completely different and much more than just a "regular" Witcher. I mean she has the power to move through different realities. I hope the game rolls with that .

I'm expecting a lot of problems, to be honest. Anytime a development team switches engines it's really hard. Thousands of hours experience with tools gets wasted. Experienced devs become novices in new tools.
Hope it works out for them.

What's the point in this? We already knew they are working on W4. The game is what, 4+ years off? See how well plugging Cyberpunk 10 years before it released worked out?
There's a reason Rockstar doesn't put out a trailer until the game is < 2 years away.

I wrote recently, also I'm pretty sure that Control and Mirror's Edge were huge flops and the protagonists gender doesn't really matter in Portal and Half-Life: Alyx.

Yes, this worked so well for Star Wars: Outlaws and Unknown 9: Awakening recently ;).
You also forgot Tomb Raider, Control, Beyond Good and Evil, Mirror's Edge, Hellblade, Bayonetta, Alien: Isolation, Plague Tale, Metroid, Portal, and Half Life:Alyx.

The trailer is great, especially with the Babylon 5 like twist at the end, but still it might be risky to release a Witcher game without the Witcher that most people expect.
El Pit wrote on Dec 13, 2024, 07:05:CDPR was very vocal and clear since before The Witcher 3 was even released, that it would be the last game to focus on Geralt. This should not be a surprise to anyone.
I like Ciri, so I got no problems with playing her. But I wished they would call it The Witcher: Ciri instead of The Witcher 4 because this makes a lot of people expect another Geralt game.

The radical left ruins everything. God forbid there's even just one thing for men alone anymore.
