It's okay. A good Diablo-clone with an off-putting monster of a skill tree (more like a skill forest). Nice graphics, the style is dark and gritty, the control scheme is okay, and it starts pretty much exactly like PoE1 which was a bit surprising.

These days I just play games the way I want without worrying too much about min/maxing.

While it is ambitious, a game that really requires you to spreadsheet and plan far in advance (or a masters degree in skill point assigning and futures) really is more a chore than a game. Not that I think it needs dumbed down, but simplified in some manner to make it more approachable would be nice. I really don't want to require the use of a Wiki to know the best aspects of my point allotments...

I put probably 4-5 hundred hours into PoE, got three characters past level 80, and never made it past a Tier 14 map. I doubt it has gotten easier. I might try PoE2 at some point, but I'm not chomping at the bit to do so...
Skill trees look bonkers, lol. Hopefully respec is cheaper/easier than in PoE 1, but I'm sure it isn't.

How well does it play with a controller? It's either PoE2 or Hades II for my gamepad gaming this winter.

After 4 hours of gameplay I uninstalled it out of boredom.. completely different experience than PoE1. If that's the direction they're taking, I'll probably won't get it once it's out.
