Path of Exile 2 Early Access Launch and Issues

The Steam Listing is live for Path of Exile 2, signifying the Early Access launch of the action/RPG sequel from Grinding Gear Games. Early Access is for those who purchased supporter packs, while the full launch will be free-to-play. Unfortunately the Path of Exile Website indicates the game is still down for maintenance, several hours after launch. Early hiccups were not entirely unexpected, as this post warns of problems that may arise from over one million new players trying to join at once. Here's the previous Early Access Gameplay Trailer and the official description:
Path of Exile 2 is a next generation free-to-play Action RPG from Grinding Gear Games, featuring co-op for up to six players. Path of Exile 2 takes place in the land of Wraeclast, a dark continent populated by unique cultures, ancient secrets, and monstrous dangers. A sinister threat, long thought destroyed, has begun creeping back on the edge of civilisation, driving people mad and sickening the land with Corruption.

Path of Exile 2 features a brand new campaign with six acts, 100 distinct environments, 600 monsters and 100 bosses.

It's okay. A good Diablo-clone with an off-putting monster of a skill tree (more like a skill forest). Nice graphics, the style is dark and gritty, the control scheme is okay, and it starts pretty much exactly like PoE1 which was a bit surprising.
There's a path that you must be exiled to. It's right in the name.
But this time... again (you know, because of the "2")!

The pace is slower than Diablo - you will get boxed into a corner and get whacked unless you roll out of the way (and sometimes you can't roll out at all). The skill tree is vast, I think that is by design, so you can buy into other class passive skills (right?).
The WASD is a nice option to explore, if it works for you then all the better. It's challenge, and yep, folks are struggling a bit (via discord chat). I can see when a D4 player comes into PoE2 (and has the expectation of becoming the unholy blender of doom) and is put off when they have to wait that 1.2 seconds for a crossbow reload.

Well, the original was completely about min/maxing, and I doubt that has changed much...

While it is ambitious, a game that really requires you to spreadsheet and plan far in advance (or a masters degree in skill point assigning and futures) really is more a chore than a game. Not that I think it needs dumbed down, but simplified in some manner to make it more approachable would be nice. I really don't want to require the use of a Wiki to know the best aspects of my point allotments...

Skill trees look bonkers, lol. Hopefully respec is cheaper/easier than in PoE 1, but I'm sure it isn't.
I haven't looked into PoE2 yet, but I would guess your assumption is correct. I put probably 4-5 hundred hours into PoE, got three characters past level 80, and never made it past a Tier 14 map. I doubt it has gotten easier. I might try PoE2 at some point, but I'm not chomping at the bit to do so...

How well does it play with a controller? It's either PoE2 or Hades II for my gamepad gaming this winter.
If you liked the original Hades, you'll almost certainly like Hades II as well. It doesn't yet have the full story, but most of the gameplay content is there.

Of course, I'll probably play it like I played PoE 1, just picking whatever looks good as I go along, or to meet stat requirements for items I have. Au naturel, so to speak.

I do dislike that other ARPG games keep trying to copy PoE's annoying passives tree (looking at you Diablo 4), It's the least fun aspect of these games, NOT killing monsters, trying to plan out your skill points and getting punished by costly respecs or no respecs instead of actual difficult game content. Using out of game guides is lame and only encourages these developers, while also severely limiting builds in game.

After 4 hours of gameplay I uninstalled it out of boredom.. completely different experience than PoE1. If that's the direction they're taking, I'll probably won't get it once it's out.
How so? Watching the trailer it looks pretty similar.

Clickfest is clickfest. Of course, it is boring and repetitive by design. Duh.
