Warcraft 1 and 2 Remasters Released [Nov 13, 2024, 7:47 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
As part of its
celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Warcraft series, Blizzard
has unexpectedly released Warcraft I: Remastered
on
Battle.net and Warcraft II: Remastered
on
Battle.net, offering updated versions of the first two installments in the
beloved real-time strategy series. But wait, you might be asking; didn't
Blizzard release Warcraft III: Reforged
in 2020 that was
so poorly received that
it ended up offering
refunds? And the answer is yes, but today's news also includes word that a
new version 2.0 patch is now available for that remake. All three games are
available separately, or as part of a new
Warcraft Remastered Battle Chest. Here's the

Beyond the update for Warcraft III: Reforged, we’re happy to announce the release of fully remastered versions of Warcraft I and Warcraft II, taking you beyond Orcs and Humans, the Tides of Darkness, and the Dark Portal for the first time, again. Players will be able to switch between the original graphics and the remastered versions in real time. We’ve also added more modern controls to Warcraft I, such as right-click move, band box select, and faster game speed.
Both Warcraft I and II also have UI and UX improvements, such as tooltips and health bars, a mission select screen, and increased unit selection.
Warcraft II will continue to have multiplayer functionality, and all legacy custom maps will remain fully compatible and playable.

Very curious to hear how they ruin these ones.
The price is $39, which seems high, but that's $13 per game. That actually seems fair.

uh..no Blizzard. I own the originals on disc and/or digital and would love to try these, but if you aren't offering a discount for current owners, this ain't getting bought anytime soon by me. I guess this is Blizzard making it clear that just because Activision is gone, that doesn't mean they still won't exercise the same price gouging as they always have. WC1 and WC2 are so old that playing them now, even remastered, has a very good chance of being a short and underwhelming gaming experience, regardless of rose colored memory goggles. Love it or hate it, there will be a ton of modern day conveniences both games will be missing in the gameplay and even the old farts will find that annoying as they invest more time in them. The third one being so crap on release and they still want full price is just kind of the chef's kiss to the whole package. What a waste. Entirely predictable from Blizzard right now, but still a waste.
Reminds me of their Warcraft Battle Chest back in the late 90s I think, very cool. Not loving some of the art designs of the updated visuals of WC1/2 but WC3 seems better overall. I would buy this but would prefer it on Steam at this point like they did Overwatch and Diablo recently. Classic games though nice to see something released from them again.
