Inspired by the epic cliffhanger from Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Project Borealis represents a fan-made effort to realize a cohesive story conclusion to the episodic series. This prologue chapter invites players back into the HEV suit of Gordon Freeman, offering a glimpse into the next chapter of his journey.
Step into a Ravenholm transformed by time and the elements. The once-familiar town now lies buried under a blanket of snow, hiding the past and new present dangers beneath its pristine surface. As you navigate through this hauntingly beautiful landscape, you'll encounter some classic enemies reimagined and completely new secrets hidden within.

Gabe sold 2 episodes ending in a cliffhanger, with the promise of a 3rd one completing the story, never delivered.
Broken promises with no dire situation to justify the letdown.
Gaslighted us for a decade.
The last writer of the Half Life franchise left Valve in 2017, so little to do.
But all that is "perfectly fine". Let's not get entitled now !

Mostly Gabe Newell has done a veritable mountain of right things for PC fans, and been handsomely rewarded in return.
But letting Half Life languish and die without bothering to finish it for 17 years, is also a complete asshole decision.
Absolutely nothing has impeded him from doing the right thing.
All the money, any of the best studios during almost 2 decades would have jumped to do the honors.
Consider the multitude of brilliant mods up to the masterful Black Mesa re-imagining.
But no, because ... "not feeling it".

Sorry, but I don't remember that you back to Ravenholm in Maidlaw's HL2:EP3 story revelation. It makes no sense and I fear they are just using the Borealis name as click bait to show off that they managed to replicate in Unreal what dozends of cool modder already have created in Source over the year, namely another Ravenholm map...
This is a tech demo. It makes sense if you actually play it. I think they chose Ravenholm as a classic HL2 location to show that they could replicate HL2 feeling in the new game and Unreal Engine. Its less than 15 minutes of actual gameplay, and towards the end of the level its pretty clear that the game wont continue in Ravenholm..
Maybe. But even then it is a waste of time! We want to see the unfinished storyline of HL2:EP3, not yet another Ravenholm map. Basically all the assets made for this are wasted as well. But I understand, zombies are cool ;).

The game uses Unreal engine 5, not the Source engine. This prologue is basically them showing how they have replicated HL2/Source style gameplay and physics in UE5
PB isnt really a HL2 mod, its a UE5 fan project set in the HL universe. It requires Half-Life 2. I don't think calling it a standalone game that requires another standalone game will be helpful, so I think I'll stick with mod for clarity.

Odd, it prompted me to install Microsoft Visual C++. Weird, I could have sworn it was already in my box.
