Out of the Blue

The NY football Giants are in the midst of their game even as I write these words as they got underway early this morning in Germany. They are playing the Carolina Panthers, so this is clearly not a showcase of excellence. In fact, I can only assume this is a concerted effort to demonstrate to the European audience what pushovers their teams would face if they actually started NFL franchises of their own. Come on in, the water's fine!

Fine Round-up
Thanks Ant, Neutronbeam, and Max.

There are differences in politics and then there are people with what I call DPI: Demonstrative Willful Ignorance. They have zero intention to learn anything new out of an irrational distrust and/or anger, and thus instead rely on old and unproven information to form opinions that are then presented as facts. It's almost as if there is a deep rooted fear that if the world learned something new, that somehow makes everything they experienced before that time invalid or wrong. (sourcing one article from the 60s that actually doesn't prove anything in the first place, for example) When taken to the extreme, accepting new and verified information becomes a sign that someone has "turned". I don't recall seeing it in people below age 60 or so until recently, but maybe that was youthful ignorance. I have half of my family stuck in 1980 and the other half in 2024. We only have one guy in our family that is so irrational and angry all the time that everyone tries to avoid contact fortunately. For the most part folks get along, but it is WILD to see. I have a cousin who 100% believes her son killed a man because of a program the government put in his arm during his pediatric vaccines. 100%, truly believes it she says. Except for one problem. If that's true, why does she still live here? She is wealthy enough to move to nearly any country she wants. If I thought the governement was that evil, I am either fighting or I am out of there. She is neither, she isn't patriotic, and she and her shock jock husband are banking dollars from a cabin in the Sierras playing pranks on people....and that makes me question whether she REALLY believes it or it's just easier to say that then to accept that her kid grew up to murder someone. Now, there is a very important thing to keep in mind about people with DPI. Their passion about their beliefs may be irrational but it drives them to vote when given a canidate that "sees" them. Combine that with another 33% of Americans that get off their ass and vote, and boom...you get today's politics.

*Yes, DPI has an optional number scale, it's subjective. The lower the number, the worse the case of DPI is. So my cousin and her 'vaccines program people' theory would be like a 100, where someone like Liz Cheney (chosen for no reason at all I assure you!) would be around 3600. Still conservative, but able to accept new information from reality. I came up with this joke scale during the pandemic while talking with coworkers and randomly remembered it for no apparent reason while reading this thread. No idea why this thread jostled that memory. Weird that.

Wish my little brother was as smart. He kept his shit up after the last election and I ultimately blocked him. Haven't spoken to him in almost 4 years.

I guess the question is whether he's lying to that group of America-hating weirdos for internet cool points, or lying to us to not seem poorly adjusted.

I wasn't wrong in my assessment. It's all him being hyper focused on exceptions not rules, things from years ago, and constantly using the F word to describe men, the D word to describe women, the not-shorthand-for-transmission word to describe the people he's weirdly obsessed with, the r word to describe everything.

Some people just don't realize that the problem isn't everyone they've never met, it's them and their attitudes.
Beam, I hope you cleared your browser cache and boiled your router after visiting that vile and disgusting site. I’m still burning sage (smudging) my phone in the hopes I won’t have to perform an exorcism on it.

So it isn't commonly believed, no, and there's no evidence of it.

I hope you get help while you make your blue beads and shave your head.

I'll give you $100 if you can honestly state you don't have a single family member that you no longer communicate with regularly.

Or, probably easier, show a single study connecting peanut allergies to vaccines. Or just state what the connection is in a halfway informed manner.

"Or, probably easier, show a single study connecting peanut allergies to vaccines." Why would anyone ever ask a Trumper for actual evidence. Oh wait, I did the exact same thing.

Common knowledge to those who are allergic to science and verifiable proof.

Egads the rise of people who have a burning, passionate, fact-free hatred of all vaccines without any context baffles my mind.

Why so allergic to science? I notice you provided absolutely no evidence or reference for your "common knowledge"... almost as if there is none. And I mean ACTUAL evidence, not some talking head making up shit on the spot or parroting some other talking head. And I don't mean coincidence. I mean ACTUAL evidence.

I do not expect veracity from MAGAts. The inability to perceive reality as it is instead of what they wish it to be means they must embrace misinformation, spread disinformation, and lie not to just everyone but to themselves as well.

It's impossible to find any sort of shared reality with anyone who denies science, history, law, and and just basic human nature. I guess I now have to note that I mean all four of those topics as they actually are, not twisted, misinterpreted, or misrepresented to mean something they are definitely not.

I love that he knew his proof was so shaky he couldn't even post it. "The NYT once said they were considering peanut oil in vaccines!" Yet, there is no peanut oil in vaccines. The article he is citing says a patent was filed and a breakthrough announced. Hey, as a regular reader of Blues, he should know about all about how regularly things patented as a breakthrough come true. I mean, my cellphone battery lasts a decade on a single 5 second quick charge! In truth, peanut oil was never approved for public use. Meanwhile, peanut oil allergies and peanut allergies aren't a perfect venn diagram.

There is, however, medical evidence that fewer parasites lead to higher allergies. Is that what causes the rise of peanut allergies? Are we in fact so healthy that our immune systems are running wild looking for something to do? Are our infants so protected from disease that their immune systems just go after the next nearest thing? All more likely than peanut oil being used in a vaccine test 60 years ago and not used since.

I don't want your money, but I have zero family members blocking or ignoring me. Granted, we have lively debates, but nothing with vitriol behind it and we still enjoy each others company, so I'm not sure what your point is with that one unless you're just trying to attack me for no reason.

As for the peanut allergies and vaccine argument, I'll let you put two and two together, because throwing a bunch of links isn't productive. But here's one formula I use, look at the CDC website and read any/all sources sited. There are old New York Times articles from the 60's talking about peanut oil being used in vaccines, so there's plenty of history for you to dog into.

I'm not a doctor, but isn't it "normal" that if people are not exposed to certain food or other possible irritants that the chance that they are allergic to them is increased? There probably is a large range between people who are just sensitive/intolerant and some few that actually a severe allergy.
