There wasn't a lot of choices, because it wasn't an RPG, and I wouldn't expect this one to be like one either.Teddy wrote on Nov 11, 2024, 15:05:Scallywag Sally wrote on Nov 11, 2024, 09:57:
I am trying to become excited for this one, but it's not working. I'm looking at all the hype and I want to understand it.
As far as I can tell, there's just not much to the game except the setting, good gunplay and some survival mechanics? Maybe that should be enough, but I don't think it is for me. There is no talent tree that keeps the gameplay loop interesting...
If you give a shit, convince me why this game is going to be special.
I don't know why anyone would try to convince you. If you're looking for talent trees, you're looking for an RPG. This is not an RPG. It doesn't have to be, and it doesn't have to try and shoehorn in RPG elements. It has a unique setting, a story arc that people enjoy and all the mechanics needed to make it a good shooter, which is exactly what it's trying to be. If experiencing the story isn't enough for you to keep you playing until the end then I don't know what to tell you. It's a single player game that isn't trying to make you play it over and over, or grind through repeated, pointless sections just to make stat x go up by 1.
Well, you actually started to convince me in your reply. I haven't heard much about the story at all, yet you were focussing on it in your reply to me. I've played the original STALKER, and I remember a lot of things: anamolies, enemies, gunplay, environment. What I don't remember one bit is a story. So you're telling me this one actually will have an immersive story? I checked Youtube after your reply and one channel mentioned "a story where your choices matter" but not much more than that. I'm intrigued.

Periods. Periods everywhere.

I remember the first patch broke save game compatibility. I didn't want to start over, so I didn't patch and kept playing. I don't remember exactly why but was unable to finish. I didn't feel like starting over.
God, I remember those times so well. Each patch breaking saves and yet, I was completely immersed in the setting and didn't give a crap. All the mods as well! The mods that turned STALKER into such a high-stake scary game. I vividly remember frantically searching for a shelter during one of the many Blowout sequences enhanced by a specific mod. The Namalsk map in old DayZ Arma days added blowouts and it made the map sooo good.
I can't wait for STALKER 2.
