Jake Simpson Leaves Raven

Responding to inquiries about bouncing emails, Jaunty Jake Simpson sent along a note saying he has departed Raven. Nothing much to sink one's teeth into here other than him saying the split was amicable. Here's the note Jake sent along:
Since I've already had some enquires via ICQ and via my home email about stuff bouncing from Raven, I thought I'd just send out a note to confirm that yes, I am no longer at Raven. The time had come to move on, so I'm doing that. It's a totally amicable split, it was just time to move on to new pastures.

I don't have anything set in stone long term beyond finishing a screen saver I was working on, and playing with some GameBoy code, so if you want to get a hold of me, please contact me at jakesimpson100@yahoo.com.

This if from his recent .plan: "These are trying times for developers it would seem, particularly if you take FatBabies at face value. I just feel extremely lucky to be working for a company that is doing well right now. Our slate is full for the next 2 years at least, and it's all fun stuff that I am glad to be involved in."
In other words, the man was clearly fired.

From what I've heard, he was being frustrated and wanted to work on a game that has AI, or something slightly similar
Or maybe on a game that takes the player more than 10 hours to finish (so he's not going to work on Remedy/3dR)

Maybe he was just tired of making games? anyone ever think of that? it really does take its toll on you.

I bet he was just tired of it all. Too many politics at Raven, especially lately. Besides, imagine being id's lackeys for so long- ugh. I'm surprised none of the Gray Matter boys haven't left yet either.

I'm waiting for one party to say "I left (or we fired him) because (insert name) was a complete nutsack."

id Software usually does this long after the fact. Witness how John Romero "left" at first but later was "fired". Granted, American McGee was "fired" then "left" and now "directs movies".

Seems weird that he posted a positive .plan update just 4 days ago (http://www.bluesnews.com/plans/164/). Maybe he got a nice package from them or something?

Isn't it always? I'm waiting for one party to say "I left (or we fired him) because (insert name) was a complete nutsack." Having worked at Raven in the past, it probably really was amicable, but its not always. I realize that you have to be tactful in what is still a small industry, but let's not kid ourselves, ya know?

I heard him speak at QC '99 - Jake Simpson kicks ass! I hope he does some cool stuff in the future, though I can't see what could be cooler than working on Jedi Knight II, Quake IV and/or Soldier of Fortune II.

"The time had come to move on...."

move on to where?? where is he going to go that has more exciting things happening than Raven?

Something tells me there is a bit more than he just up and decided it was time to "move on"...I wish him luck though.
