Beamer wrote on Nov 10, 2024, 17:02:95, not 93 -- but yeah. And it is why I was able to retire at 53 when I got laid off. Choosing a career with good salaries is always a solid decision -- in my case, Information Technology. But a good salary is just a start. You have to save, and a lot of people either don't or worse, can't. I was also aided by the fact I chose to remain single, without a wife or kids saving is a bit easier. But even that isn't good enough, you can get screwed by unfortunate timing. If I had been laid off in 2006, just before the housing/market crash I'd be a lot worse off than when I was laid off a decade later in 2016.
$33k in 93 is over $70k today.
Which is why compound interest is an important part of retirement, haha
