I'm not an investment guru, but I definitely pay closer attention to financial markets than most people and something which has become very clear is VERY few of the US population have any understanding of financial matters. All you have to do is look at the "keeping up with the Joneses" mentality which is far too prevalent to realize this. And understanding the stock market is above that, so yeah -- not many getting that far. One of my two sisters worked in finance at Intel over 25 years. She is smart and she handles her personal finances well (better than many). But she pretty much knows nothing about the stock market. I have on more than one occasion been surprised by how little she knows about how it works despite working in finance for almost 30 years.
I saw a poll yesterday that said that 75% of Republicans disagree that the stock market is at an all time high. If you voted Trump for your stocks, you're not thinking rationally. Also, you should be more focused on your wages and on the disparity between you and your CEO.
