Today is Election Day in the U.S. If you are a voter, I'm really hoping this is
not the first you're hearing of this. MrsBlue and I are about to duck out to do
our civic duty. I promised the Pickle Rick on my desk an "I Voted" sticker, and
he seems excited about that. We expect things to go smoothly for us, so I really
appreciate those who willingly endure long-lines and other obstacles that stand
between them and democracy. The stakes are high and the rhetoric has reflected
that, so hopefully we can proceed peacefully through this process and its
aftermath, Guy Fawkes Night notwithstanding.
To follow up on my jury duty summons, last night I learned I don't have to report tomorrow, so my luck held out. My next check-in is after business tomorrow, when I find out if I'm required to report on Thursday. I'll keep you posted.

Call me crazy, but it wasn't that long ago that doctors became doctors because they wanted to help people. But you're going to actually tell me that the doctors should be forgiven for listening to a young girl screaming in pain and doing nothing because they were afraid that may get into trouble. If you can't see how fucked that is, I only have more proof that all anyone cares about is money and politics. I'm done. Talk to me about videogames, or don't fucking talk to me.
They weren't afraid of getting in trouble. They were afraid of losing their careers.
The federal government has a law requiring doctors to give life saving aid in emergency rooms. Texas has very clearly stated that this does not supercede their abortion laws. A doctor rendering aid here would be committing a felony. They'd be fired. They'd never get insured again. And they'd have their license revoked. For someone they may not be able to save, and if they couldn't, they'd almost definitely have civil charges on top of the criminal.
Texas has created a situation where hospitals think they'll be sued, and doctors think they'll be charged felonies and sent to prison. That's not a doctor issue. That's a lawmaker issue.
