Out of the Blue

Happy Standard Time to everyone who had to change their clocks today, as the end of Daylight Saving Time is once again upon us. For a hot minute there it seemed like there was momentum behind legislation to make the United States go with permanent Daylight time, but that seems to have petered out. An article on the Washington Post makes the case for why Standard time is healthier for people than Daylight time, so maybe permanent Standard time would be preferable. But I don't know anyone who thinks that jacking the clock back and forth twice a year is working well, so hopefully this isn't the last we've heard of this.

<Shrugs>

I know but that doesn't mean it's not completely stupid, arbitrary, and counter-productive.

I've ditched getting up by a clock. I go to bed when I'm tired and wake up whenever I do. Work doesn't give a shit if I roll in at 0800 or 1100. So long as all milestones are hit and I deliver. I don't schedule meetings before 1300 because no one wants to start a day with a meeting outside of sociopaths who want to hear themselves bloviate. Let people come in, get their caffeine, get settled, and get themselves going.

So, let's take your 0700 forced wake up time. Whether the sun rises at 0445 or 0545 is irrelevant, you'd have slept through both points and slept the same amount. It makes no sense to me to worry about sunrise when people are likely to sleep through it anyway.
